From melting
snow on our opener to mostly dry fairways and warm temperatures, 96 golfers met
at Hot Springs Village to play our first major of the season at DeSoto and
Magellan. It was a great way to make up for a cold, snowy opener.
In the Champ
Flight, veteran tour player, Ben Starsky (83-78), made up a three stroke
deficit from Day 1 to edge Alex Hoffman (80-82) by one stroke.
The A flight saw Logan Karsten (80-78) edge our first round
leader, Chad Wintz (77-82) by one stroke to take home the trophy. Third place went
to Corey Jarman (80-80). Rounding out the paid places in the A flight were Kyle
Delaughter (81-81) and Kevin Dunham (80-82). Kevin beat Gary Whitt in the card
off.
Leading wire-to-wire in the B-flight was Phillip Turner (81-81)
with a four stroke over Ricky Brown (84-82). Third place went to Jacob
Chronister (84-83). Finishing fourth and fifth respectively was LR Gardner
(85-89) and Buddy Taylor (87-89).
Rodney Painter (80-96) looked like a runaway winner after shooting
80 on the first day. However, Tyler Lindsay (92-84) came from 12 strokes back to
tie Rodney and force a playoff. Tyler prevailed in the playoff to take home the
C-flight trophy. Eric White (85-94) was third. Raymond Peevy (91-90) finished
in fourth place with Paul Golden (91-91) finishing fifth.
As the first
day leaders struggled at Magellan, Yul Eslinger (89-90) stayed steady to earn a
five shot victory over Jay Williams (87-95). Third place went to first round
leader, Kyle McLelland (86-96). Fourth place prize was earned by Jeff Corder
(97-93) with fifth place going to Scott Branscum (92-99).
