The
second major of the Arkansas Golf Week Amateur Tour was threatened by
thunderstorms, but the golf goddess smiled on a group of 90 golfers and the storm
parted before reaching Bella Vista. The weather was gorgeous for both days at
the Scotsdale course and the Highlands course. We ended April and started May
on a dry golf course.
In
a five player Champ flight shootout, Alex Hoffman (74-75) outlasted 5 players
to take home the Champ Flight trophy. Dustin Cole (71-80) took home second
place money.
The A flight saw the tournament’s only playoff as Donald Gay
(74-82) outlasted Chad Wintz (76-80) in a one-hole playoff to finish first.
Gary Whitt (79-78) and Greg Connell (76-83) rounded out the paid places in the
A flight
The B Flight was a little less dramatic as LR Gardner (77-84) lead
wire-to-wire for the win and a promotion to the A Flight. Finishing second was
Patrick Eaton (89-79). Brian Barnes (83-86) finished third with Arkansas Tour
Director, Jerry Homishak, (82-87) taking
fourth in the card off with Brian.
In the C flight Rick Muniz (81-83) posted some stellar scores to
win the C flight. The rest of the players who placed were separated by one stroke
for each place. Nathan Holden (83-89) took second. Third, fourth, and fifth
went respectively to Kansas Tour Director, David King (89-84), Kyle McClelland
(93-81), and Dennis Drummond (82-93).
To
avoid and Arkansas sweep, the D Flight saw Brad Haeffner (87-86) overtake John
Cochrane (81-93) to win first place. Richard McMahan (93-83) won a three way
card off with Louis Ralph (89-87) and Jeff Myers (88-88) to take third place.
Our
next tournament is at Granada in Hot Springs Village. The Village courses are
always great places to play. Sign up early as you move towards the road to the
National Finals in South Carolina.
