Mississippi National

The Minneapolis Golfweek Amateur Tour went to Mississippi National for their last event on Saturday, June 27th, 2015.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the course was in tremendous condition.

Champ flight welcomed Charlie Casci visiting from the Tidewater Va tour and new Minneapolis Tour Member Chris Ormsby.  Competition was tight for the most part withMatthew Foehse, Charlie Casci, and Tyler Metkoski tied for 2nd at the turn shooting 39’s and trailing the leader Jason Rhoades by 4 carding an even par 35 on the front.

Jason had a little harder time on the back nine but the 4 shot lead was too much for Chris Ormsby to overcome giving Jason his second win in a row shooting an impressive score of 76, with Chris just 2 shots behind in 2nd place.

A flight welcomed back Winn Bartlett for his second event on the tour against Kevin Watson.  Getting his first event under his belt might have been the difference for Winn as he lead Kevin by 7 shots at the turn and held on to take his first tour win by 4 shots carding a good score of 83, with Kevin finishing his round with a respectable 87.

B flight fielded its smallest field of the season pittingBob Santee against Steven Holland and Larry Caldwell.  The smaller field must have boosted the confidence of Bob, while a big Thursday birthday for Larry really played its toll.

Bob shot lights out and the competition was never close.  At the turn, he held a 7 shot lead over Steven and a 10 shot lead over Larry by shooting a 4 over par 39.  His play only got better and he improved his front nine score by one stroke, carding a 2 over 38 to win by a landslide – and rightfully so, shooting the 2nd lowest score of the event with a final score of 77!

C flight welcomed new to the tour JC Strand, and returning player Victor Lucio.  At the turn, playing in only his second event, Tom Schooley shot a 39 to hold a 1 shot lead over JC, and 6 shots over Jimmy Schomaker and Tom Blaido.

JC didn’t let his first event jitters get to him and kept it steady on the back nine while Tom had a hard time and Jimmy pulled things together.  JC carded a 41 on the back giving him a total of 81 and a three shot win over Jimmy shooting an impressive score of 39 on the back for a total of 84.

Bill Mlodgenski, showing his support for the tour, graciously battled his way through an uncontested event taking yet another win.  D flight continues to be plagued by the phrase “I am not good enough to play competitive golf”..  Bill takes home $30 and a trophy for shooting a 96.

Another great event in the book.  I know that phrase is getting old, but it still reigns true.  We had gorgeous weather, great competition, great conditions, extra payouts and prizes…..how could the day be spent any better?
