"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"

Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!

Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.

  • It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)

  • It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).

  • It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

LANKFORD WINS CHAMP PLAYOFF IN GOLFWEEK TOUR FINALS

Browns Summit, NC

September 23, 2012

After the first day of competition on the Players Course at Bryan Park Golf Club in the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour 2-Day Local Finals, eleven golfers were within 3 strokes of the lead in the Championship Flight. Kernersville's Billy Lankford with a 75 was among them, trailing 4 other Tour members by only a single stroke for that first day lead.

Lankford then managed to post the lowest Flight score on Day-2 on the Champions Course with a 76 and a 36-hole score of 151 that tied him with one of the first-day leaders, Hillsborough's Garrett Smith, who posted a 77. Scores were higher "across-the-board" on the Champions Course on Day-2 in almost all flights.

In the ensuing "Sudden-Death" playoff, Lankford emerged victorious with 2 simple pars, when Smith missed a short putt on their final hole. Lankford's win will give him an invitation to the Triad Golf Today Tournament of Champions later this year, along with the season long Points Champion, Dan Holland of High Point.

In the A Flight, Greensboro's Coray Mitchell posted a 75-79 - 154 total for the 2 days to beat Robin Gomez, also from Greensboro, by 2 shots. Raleigh's Scott Williams was 7 strokes behind the leaders going into Day-2, but shot the best round of the final day in his flight with an 83 that propelled him from the middle of the pack to the B Flight crown. His 169 total was one clear of Jack Frazier from Clemmons and Rocky Mount's Jimmy Adams.

The C Flight belonged to Rolesville's Bill Wilkinson who had the lowest score in the flight for both days. He was the only C Flight member to break 90 on Day-2 with an 89, which coupled with his 83 on Day-1, gave him a 172 and a comfortable 7-shot win over Gibsonville's Jesse Ingle.

Greensboro's Ken White followed up his first day score of 94 with a 92 in the D Flight to easily outdistance Pittsboro's Chad Burton for the top spot.

This event was the final local Triad Tour event for the 2012 season. The top 10 players in the season-long Points Standings race will be eligible for the National Tour Finals in Hilton Head, which start October 19th. That event will bring the top 700 players from the 40 Tours across the country to crown a National Champion in all 5 Flights.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be  a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve.  So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?   Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week.  You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.   There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions

Questions from week #165

Tom’s tee ball has come to rest between two roots of a tree where it is clearly unplayable. However, he also has interference with a cart path for his stance.

Mike, a right-handed player, has found his tee ball has come to rest against a hedge. In order to make a stroke at his ball in the direction of the hole, he would have to play a stroke left-handed. If he were to attempt this, Mike would have interference from a sprinkler control box.on his follow-through.

Refer to relief from an immovable obstruction as written in Rule 24-2b (read the Exception as well) then decide who should get relief:

A. Both Tom and Mike should get relief.

B. Yes for Tom, no for Mike.

C. No for Tom, yes for Mike.

D. Neither Tom nor Mike should get relief.

Answer

C. Tom is not entitled to relief, Mike is.

When a ball is clearly unplayable because of the natural condition of the spot of the ball, then interference by some other condition for which relief is normally given is immaterial. This applies to interference with immovable obstructions (R24-2) or interference with an abnormal ground condition (R25-1). The following exception is essentially identical for both Rules:

Exception: A player may not take relief under this Rule if (a) interference by anything other than an immovable obstruction [or] abnormal ground condition makes the stroke clearly impracticable or (b) interference by an immovable obstruction [or] abnormal ground condition would occur only through use of a clearly unreasonable stroke or an unnecessarily abnormal stance, swing or direction of play.

While Tom does not have a stroke using any practical method, Mike does. In Mike’s case he has a way to swing and strike the ball which is necessary for his situation. As the sprinkler control box would interfere with this left-handed stroke, Mike is entitled to relief. If after taking relief, Mike finds it is no longer necessary to make a left-handed stroke, then he may proceed right-handed. Notice this exception also mentions the terms “unnecessarily abnormal”, which applies to stance, swing or direction of play.

For example, a player’s ball lies in a 3” depression in the earth that runs in the direction of the green. It is clearly an unfavorable lie, but he does have a stroke. He realizes if he were to stand on the opposite side of the ball and make a left-handed stroke, he would have interference with a cart path. Should he get relief? No, you should see that this is not a clearly reasonable stroke for the condition of his ball.

This same logic should apply to the type of swing or the direction of play. The Rules are there to be taken advantage of when they properly apply to a given situation, but they are not to be twisted or negotiated with to alleviate an unlucky bounce of the ball.

In this game we are forced to except both the good and the bad breaks and make the best of our situation adhering to the principles and spirit of the Rules.
