2013 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR GOLF TOUR
MARCH 23, 2013
Devils Ridge Country Club
-----
Devils Ridge Country Club

This week is the first Major Tournament of the 2013 season.

For you newbies, all Major Tournaments sell-out because of the double points that are awarded. ) Ususally, the pool payout is bigger and more places paid (depending on the number of players in each flight). You can still sign-up to play Devils Ridge Country Club.

A Major awards double points to all golfers regardless of where you finish in your flight. There will be plenty of points to be earned for the accurate golfer and those who can manage their way around Devils Ridge.

Here’s your chance to move up in the standings and get early bragging rights. If you are signed-up, we will see you this week-end.

Don’t miss playing this private course in Holly Springs.

Devil’s Ridge Country Club is always in pristine condition, is a great course to play and one that can yield some very low scores. It was built on rolling terrain with convex fairways (seldom a level lie but balls funnel to middle of the fairway).

The course is lined with towering hardwoods, and the elevated greens were always in excellent condition with moderate undulations but they have upgraded to new A1-A4 greens which opened in November 2012. This course will be a treat to play.

The signature hole is #17, a 388-yard, par 4, with an elevated green that has a twenty-foot drop off the back side. Make sure you select the correct club for your approach.

This is a perennial favorite and always bring out the best in your round. See 2012 Winners and scores below. Will they repeat??

To register and to sign-up to play, call or email Bruce at 336- 495-6556 or behgolf@aol.com.

TOUR VETS RULE TOP SPOTS IN GOLFWEEK TOUR EVENT

Foxfire Village, NC

March 16, 2013

Veteran Golfweek Amateur Tour players dominated the top 2 places in all 5 flights contested in today's event on the West Course at Foxfire Country Club with one exception.

Scott Abrams, playing in his very 1st Tour event used a little "home cooking" on his way to victory in the A Flight. The Foxfire Village resident shot 76 and was 2 shots clear of a trio of golfers: Thomasville's Dan Anthony, Hope Mills' Mark Cobb, and Grant Powell of Colfax. Taking home a little Skins Pool money as well, the day proved profitable for the newcomer.

The best round of the day was turned in by Championship Flight winner Mark Macejko of Vass, whose 2-under 70 (from the back tees) gave him a comfortable 6 stroke margin of victory over Winston-Salem's Gene Queen.

B Flight top honors went to Winston-Salem's Jason Smith, who edged Durham's Greg Walker by a single stroke 84 to 85. Smith and Walker both are long time Tour regulars who have over 200 career starts between them "on-Tour".

Breaking out of an early season slump, Fayetteville's Johnny Sears was easily the class of the C Flight with an 84, 3 shots better than Rolesville's Bill Wilkinson. "Both Johnny and Bill are capable of winning every time they tee it up" noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "With only 3 guys in the flight breaking 90 (the other was Tour rookie Will Staten of Fayetteville) it shows how tough they can be when they're on".

Mark Wamsher of Hope Mills ran away with the D Flight, firing an 85 for a 7 shot margin over Siler City's Carlos Simpson. "This is Mark's 2nd year of competition with us and he's shown great improvement. We'll be checking his Tour handicap to see if a flight promotion might be in order", stated Hallenbeck.

Next week The Golfweek Tour will present the season's first Major Championship at Devils Ridge Country Club in Holly Springs. There are open spots available in that event for any amateur golfer who is interested in competing "on-Tour".

For information contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or by email at behgolf@aol.com.

"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"

Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!

Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.

  • It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)

  • It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).

  • It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

"When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions

Question from week #186 Al and his group is searching for his tee ball which was well hit in the direction of a fairway bunker. After a few minutes of searching, a ball was located in a very odd situation. See the photo below:

As it lay inside the rake housing, the ball was identified as his ball. How should Al proceed? A. Al must mark the position of the ball, lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then place the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. B. Al need not mark the position of the ball. He should lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then place the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. C. Al must mark the position of the ball, lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then drop the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. D. Al need not mark the position of the ball. He should lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then drop the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake.
Answer Crazy things can happen along the way to the bar and the Rules cover most of them. The correct answer is D. This photo happens to be taken with a cell phone by the individual whose ball ended up in the position you see, un-staged, actual situation. This opening is much smaller than the hole and to do this you can only approach the rake from a limited angle to achieve this result. These guys are good! Anyway. The rake is a moveable obstruction and the ball is “in or on” the obstruction. This is covered under R24-1b. The Rule does not require the ball to first be marked. It is not a bad idea however, as the player is responsible for dropping on or as near as possible to the spot directly under where Al’s ball sits in the rake. And, yes, Al can clean the ball before dropping.

Tour Weather Guidelines:

Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).

In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.

Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.

If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
