2013 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR GOLF TOUR
APRIL 20, 2013
BENTWINDS COUNTRY CLUB

------Bentwinds Country Club------

Bentwinds - Secures its Place As one of Top Playing Private Courses in the Triangle.

Bentwinds Country Club was designed and shaped through farm lands and tall pines and oaks.

Recently renovated, Kris Spence took what was a great base to make Bentwinds one of Central North Carolina’s finest golf courses. Strategic bunker placement and wonderfully defined tiff sport bermudagrass fairways creates challenging shot angles to the A-1 A-4 bentgrass greens.

Tour players will encounter narrow fairways, sloping greens, and a variety of hazards at Bentwinds. Regardless of when you play Bentwinds finishing holes Nos 16, 17, and 18, they could present difficult challenges that will require you to carefully place your tee shots and demand solid iron play to reach these well-protected greens.

Tour Members who have played here before, always makes this venue one of the courses they play during the season. For you newbies, that means don't miss this gem.

To reserve your place and to sign-up, please reply to this email, sign-up on-line or call Bruce Hallenbeck.

Everyone loves this course and you have a chance for a career round.

To register and to sign-up to play, call or email Bruce at 336- 495-6556 or behgolf@aol.com.

FOUR 1ST-TIME WINNERS HIGHLIGHT GOLFWEEK AM TOUR EVENT

Lexington, NC

April 13, 2013

Four Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour members who had never entered the winner's circle "on-Tour" before, walked away with 1st place trophies today at Sapona Ridge Country Club.

Claiming the top spot in 4 of the 5 flights contested were: Fayetteville's Ryan Hair in the A Flight, Eddie Warren of Kernersville in "B", the C Flight's Jim Mercer from Alexandria Ohio, and finally Kurt Bryant of Fayetteville in the D Flight.

The lone previous winner was Advance's Mike Meadows in the Championship Flight who has claimed multiple Tour wins, including a previous 1st at Sapona Ridge.

Of the 4 "first-timers" all posted career low scores. Hair shot 75, Warren a 79, Mercer an 85, and Bryant a 93.

Grant Powell of Colfax was 2nd in the A Flight with a 76. Jeffery Silver of Oxford and Jimmy Adams of Greenville were runners-up in "B" with 80s.

The C Flight saw Greensboro's AJ Haardt finish "in-the-money" for the 1st time in his rookie campaign as he tied Fayetteville's Will Staten for 2nd with 87s.

Last week's D Flight winner, Zebulon's Greg Dauscher, was 2nd this time with a 97.

Kyle Gee of Lewisville and Neal Faulkner of Gibsonville finished tied for 2nd in the Championship Flight with 79s.

Next week the Golfweek Amateur Tour takes it's show to Fuquay-Varina to play Bentwinds Country Club, another private venue "on-Tour".

Openings are available for that event and any amateur golfer interested in playing can contact Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 for information on how to enter.

"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"

Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!

Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.

  • It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)

  • It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).

  • It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

"When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions

Question from week #195

Patti’s drive comes to rest in the fairway in an area where the club’s resident Canada Geese gaggle apparently held a party and sleep-over. She believes this area should be deemed ground under repair, and that she is entitled to relief under R25-1, Abnormal Ground Condition.

She lifts, cleans and drops her ball free of the area. It is then that a fellow competitor tells her that the goose droppings are loose impediments and not GUR and that she must play the ball from her original position.

So Patti again lifts her ball, uses her foot to remove a couple of the “loose impediments”, and replaces her ball on its original spot. She hits her next ball onto the green and takes two putts to complete the play of the hole.

What is Patti’s score for the hole?

A. 4

B. 5

C. 6

D. 7

Answer

B. Patti made four strokes at her ball and had one penalty stroke for a total of 5.

Patti’s mistake was assuming the area her tee ball ended up was GUR. An area that is not marked as GUR by the Committee cannot be deemed so by any player, only by a member of the Committee or a designated representative. Had she asked her fellow competitors, she likely would have learned the proper designation for the droppings are loose impediments. As disgusting as that effort may seem, the player is allowed to move them at will.

Since she could not take relief under R25-1, when she lifted her ball she breached R18-2. She is penalized one stroke and must replace the ball. Even though her ball is in play where she dropped free of the area, R20-6 affords her the authority to correct her error.

If she fails to correct her error, her 1-stroke penalty becomes a Loss of Hole penalty in match play or 2-stroke penalty in stroke play for playing from a wrong place.

Tour Weather Guidelines:

Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).

In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.

Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.

If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
