View from the Tenth Tee at TalonsCove

When the Wind Blows at TalonsCove

The tournament began with the typical pleasant and breezy Utah summer weather, and then the storm rolled in.  The sky turned a dark blue-gray, the wind gusted, and the pins bent like willows and flew out of the holes.  Even with a battering from the gusting winds for about six holes, the seventeen players logged nineteen birdies and one eagle.

Tournament Details:

  • In the Championship Flight:   Boo Bendinger earned his second victory, in the same number of tournaments, from the tips at 82 with two birdies.  Jeremy Lieber was second at 88 with two birdies and a skin on the second hole.
  • In the A Flight:  Collin Townsend, the only player in the tournament to break 80, won with one birdie and an impressive 6-stroke lead at 78.  Bruce Critchely was second at 84 with two birdies.  Raul Delatorre was third at 85 with four birdies, the most of the day, and not a dime to show for it.
  • In the B Flight:  Ben Lambert grabbed his first victory of the season from the grasp of Marty Cole who put two skins wins and three closest to the pin wins on the record sheet, the most money game wins of the season in one tournament.  Ben also just missed cancelling out Roger Keally's eagle on 16 with an eagle of his own on the same hole.  Ben took the win, with one birdie at 84, by one stroke over Marty's three birdie 85.
  • In the C Flight:  Adam Harrison logged his second victory of the season with a 96 and a 40-foot chip-in birdie on the 9th hole.  Jason Tanner finished two strokes back for second place at 98.
  • In the D Flight:  Roger Keally took the win after a tight competition with two birdies and an eagle.  Rich Olofsonand Roger were tied after nine, and Jason Curtis and Scott Wilson were only a few strokes out of the lead.  The round heated up on the back with Scott and Jason charging forward and the foursome all being within a few strokes going into 18.  Roger was the victor at 90 with Rich, Jason, and Scott ending in a three-way tie for second place at 92.  Roger won skins for his birdie on number one and his eagle on number 16.
  • Skins Winners:  Jeremy LieberMarty Cole (two holes),Roger Keally (two holes including one eagle)
