The first weekend in February brings out over 400 players around the country! The Phoenix Tour started its inaugural on a cold, wet; blustery day Champ Flight member Peter Ells birdied his first two holes en route to an impressive 3 under 69! 4 birdies and 1 bogey made for an incredible round! Runner up Bob Aussprung birdied the final two holes for an even par 72. Great rounds in sub par weather by both of you! Enoch Turner, a late entry to the 'A' Flight wasted no time finding his way to the winners circle posting a 6 over 78 to claim the flight! Enoch battled back from a slow start with a 1 under par 35 on the back nine to distance himself from runner up Joseph Brazil. Joseph had 2 birdies to card an 83 and slip by 3rd place finisher Anthony Maldonado by a stroke, who finished with an 84. 'A' Flight is setting the stage to be very competitive this year. 'B' Flight also saw some competitive play. Chad Pewamo carded 2 birdies on his way to an impressive 79 to claim top honors! Members William Smart and Terry Hopton battled to a scorecard playoff to determine 2nd and 3rd after each posted rounds of 82. The #1 handicap hole was the long 464 yard par 4 in which William bogeyed to claim 2nd place money. Congratulations to all three for their fine rounds! Melvin Woody posted a very consistent 44 on the front and 44 on the back to claim 1st place honors in the 'C' Flight. Melinda Konicke carded a fine round of 91 to claim 2nd. Robert Frederick of the 'D' Flight calmed his nerves after a triple bogey start, battled back and won by a shot over Atlanta tour director Ken Sullivan and Jeff Messina with a 97. Both Ken and Jeff carded 98's setting up a scorecard playoff, which he won with a bogey on the second playoff hole, the other long par 4 at 440 yards. Charlotte Tour: Dave Schmidt , John Clark and Terry Upright all win in sudden-death playoffs! Dave Schmidt and Michael Bailey both shot one over par 73's on Saturday to go into a sudden- death playoff. After three holes Schmidt would come out victorious on the par 3 third hole. Chad Frye had a chance to be in the playoff but his second shot on the 18 th ended up left of the green in the high fescue. Frye end up making 6 and finishing in third place with a 75. Adam Vincent rounded out the top four with a 78. A Flight: John Clark and Kevin Ronan both finished at 79 and had our second sudden-death playoff on Saturday. Clark was victorious making a par on the first playoff hole. Tour veteran Kevin Ronan noted that this was the 3 rd year in a row that he finished in second place in the inaugural event. Roger Stevenson & James Brannen finished 2 shots back of the leaders with a pair of 81's. Stevenson then beat out Brannen on the score card playoff for 3rd place money. B Flight: Terry Upright & Steve Matteo both shot 82's Saturday to once again give the egolf Amateur Tour another sudden-death playoff. Upright beat Matteo because Matteo had to catch a flight for work right after the round finished. Four players finished 2 shots back with 84's. Dennis Reames beat all the 84's on the card for third and Scott Ide got fourth. C Flight: Only 2 golfers broke 90 yesterday in the windy conditions at Charlotte National on Saturday. Tour rookie Steve Price started out the season in fine fashion winning his first ever event with an 84. Last years C Flight points winner John Rinaldi finished in second with an 88. Jack Frasier beat out Calvin Adair on the scorecard playoff for third place, both players shot 90. Hilton Head results: Championship Flight "A" Flight "B" Flight "C" Flight "D" Flight Jacksonville Tour: Champ Flight: On greens 12-13 on a stimp meter, and with pins many felt were questionable, Tomlinson managed himself better than everyone else, carding a 74 on a course rated at 72.5 at 6,753 yds. Finishing 2nd in the Champ flight was Bill Foster shooting 78 and third place went to Andrew Smith carding a 79. These three players were the only guys in the field who broke 80. A flight: Bill Rhiley shot 85 and captured his second victory on tour and did it on greens he said were faster than his linoleum kitchen floor. In second place was Gainesville 's powerful Matt Munksgard carding an 89. Third place was Jerome Alba, a veteran player of amateur golf tours...he too can take some satisfaction in placing on a day when the course beat up allot of the players. B Flight: Maybe the most competitive match of the day was the B flight. Darren Rawlinson carded an 87 for his second consecutive win in 09. 2nd place went to Justin Ford and 3rd place went to Bobby Johnson. C Flight: Guy Holden is a relative new-comer to the egolf tour. Mr. Holden is regarded by those who've played with him as an excellent putter, and as we suspected he loved the greens. The pins he said were in some cases not very fair but, everyone had to deal with the locations and he dealt with them the best in the C flight. 2nd place was the very competitive egolf Jax tour vet, Randolph Hill and though he didn't score to his standard, it was still good enough for a 2nd place finish. D flight: Myke Mitchell birdied the last hole and was the only one to birdie the eighteen in the field; this punctuated his victory in the D flight. Finishing second was Lyn Rhode who felt like he had his chances but Mitchell finished strong and didn't give anyone much of a chance to believe they could over take him down the stretch on the back nine. Houston Tour: Once again we had a great turn out for the second event of the season, 61 players competed Sunday the 8th at High Meadow Ranch. Thanks to all of the members that made it out. This is a good sign because it is early in the season and I expect even more old & new members to start playing as the season gets closer to spring. Championship Flight: 1st - Mike Westrum - 75 2nd - John Hunter - 76 3rd - Ryan Clarke - 78 "A" Flight "C" Flight 1st - Walter Menuet - 78 1st - Percy Kennedy - 88 2nd - Harold Jackson - 79 2nd - Willie Harvill - 89 3rd - Craig Colbert - 80 3rd - Mike Murphy - 91 "B" Flight "D" Flight 1st - Scott Virgadamo - 81 1st - John Farneti - 90 2nd - James Fortado - 82 2nd - Brett Crochet - 93 3rd - Brad Fox - 87 3rd - Adrian Correa - 94
