"Talking to a golf ball won't do you any good. Unless you do it while your opponent is teeing off."

Durham, NC (March 21, 2009) - Damp, slow fairways and tough greens caused scores to soar in the Egolf Amateur Golf Tour event held Saturday on the 6,475 yard, par 72 layout at Falls Village Golf Club. Only two golfers managed to break 80, and both accomplished the feat by the narrowest of margins by shooting 79s. Lexington 's James Goin and Brad Morris of Four Oaks won the Championship and A Flights respectively with those scores.

The B Flight witnessed a battle between two first year Tour members as Ramseur's Mike Hindmarsh prevailed over Johnnie Baggett of Dunn on the 1st hole of a sudden-death playoff. Both had registered 84's on their regulation 18 holes during the event. In the playoff, Baggett, who had fought problems with a "snap-hook" earlier in the day, put his drive in the woods to the left. That errant shot resulted in a bogey-5 on the hole, while Hindmarsh cooly knocked his tee shot in the fairway and went on to a routine par for the win.

The most remarkable score of the day was turned in by C Flight player Shirral Davis of Raleigh . While virtually everyone else in the event was posting higher scores than normal, he turned in his best Tour effort in 3 years of play. Davis, who has an authenticated Tour handicap of 17.0 in over 25 events on-Tour, shot an 83 for a 9-stroke victory over his nearest competitor, James Eatmon of Sims. As a matter of fact, only five players in the C Flight field of nineteen even broke 100, making Davis ' effort stand out that much more.

"Conditions were tough" said Assistant Tour Director Tom Kubla, "these guys are capable of shooting much lower than we saw today. I expect to see some (low) numbers posted next time out".
