Dozier wins playoff at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.Adam Dozier birdied the second hole of a sudden death playoff to win the championship flight of the Golfweek Amateur Tour Ice Breaker Open at the Palmetto Dunes Golf Resort.

Dozier’s victory came over Richard Gaines and Dennis Adkins after all three tied at 155 through 36 holes of regulation play. Dozier and Gaines both birdied the first playoff hole to eliminate Adkins before Dozier sealed the win on the second hole.

Andre Emery fired rounds of 76-75—151 to claim a three-shot win over Randall Webb in the A flight while Chris Franklin (164) won the B flight by four shots over Denny Miller.

In the C flight, Andrew Dart battled back from a five-shot deficit to earn a 7-shot win over Todd Saylor while David Bruce shot 173 in winning the D flight by 10 shots over K.C. Andrews.

The Tour’s inaugural event for the 2011 season drew over 100 golfers who enjoyed rounds on both the George Fazio and Robert Trent Jones courses.

Jaspers goes low in winning at Carolina Lakes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Joe Jaspers fired a 5-under-par 67 to hold off a late charge from Greg Harrold in winning the season-opening Golfweek Amateur Tour event at Carolina Lakes Golf Club.

Jaspers claimed a 2-shot win in the championship flight despite Harrold carding birdie on each of the last three holes.

In the A flight, Dennis Reames birdied the second playoff hole in defeating Greg McCoy. Both players shot 80 in their rounds and McCoy had a chance to win on the first playoff hole, but missed his birdie put from 3 feet.

David Hargett defeated Dean Hearn in a one-hole playoff in capturing the B flight after both players had shot 80.

Dana Greer, a seasoned veteran of the Golfweek Amateur Tour, finally notched his first victory by firing 85 and beating out Matt Meneely by one shot.
