Tamburro earns wet victory

Upstate SC Tour March 5th, Southern Oaks GC

Easly, S.C. – Chuck Tamburro and Shane Owen battled through wet and windy conditions to win their respective divisions at the Golfweek Amateur Tour Upstate SC event at Southern Oaks Golf Club. Tamburro’s 80 in the A flight was the low round of the tournament, beating out his son Chris Tamburro (81) and Danny Garrison (82). Owen fired 81 to win the championship flight by four strokes over Stephen Quarterman.

Bill Daniel overcame a two-shot deficit on the back nine to win the B flight with an 80, one shot better than Suk K Yi. Daniel’s back-nine 38 spurred the victory that was culminated with a par on the 18th that finally overtook Yi.

Tour rookie Ricky Whitmore fired an 88 to claim a one-shot win over Judd Stewart in the C flight while Butch Gragg’s 88 was good enough for a four-shot win over Cordy Worth in the D flight.

The Upstate Tour will next host its first major of the season at Deer Brook Golf Club in Shelby, N.C.

Dallas-Fort Worth Tour March 6, The Tribute

The Colony, TX – Brett Ramsey won a playoff over Kenneth Hull to win the season-opening event of the DFW Golfweek Amateur Tour at The Tribute Golf Club.

Ramsey and Hull both shot 82 to force the playoff while Cecil Bird shot 87 to place third in the championship flight.

Tour veteran Jason Kalb shot 81 to edge out rookie Troy Biesel by one stroke in the A flight. Kevin McIntosh’s 85 was good for a third-place finish.

In the B flight, Kenneth Kilpatrick blazed his way to victory with a solid 78, followed by tour rookie Cheyenne Bauman who finished second with 80. Chris Reynolds took third place with an 88.

Three-year tour veteran Paul Gerber shot 94 to win the C flight while rookie John Vandevoort placed second with a 97. Jeff Hodge, another tour rookie, finished third with a 100.

In the D flight, David Davis won a battle of tour veterans in shooting 96, five shots better than runner-up Ron Brabham.

The Tour enjoyed its largest opening-day field ever at The Tribute, thanks mainly to some gorgeous Texas weather and a course of Scottish replica holes. The DFW Golfweek Amateur Tour will next visit Texas Starr on March 27 in Euless, Texas.
