Willow Creek 2017 Recap

Contributed by Sean Naylor

Five birdies and seven pars gave Al Hyjek the 74-76 win over Tysen Sarkela in the A Flight. Hyjek trailed by one stroke heading into the back but played lights out from there. His 2-over-par performance was the best throughout all five flights. Sarkela finished four-over on the day. Adam Shealy took third (84). Be sure to wish Adam a happy birthday when you see him since his name was inadvertently left off the birthday list (June 29th)!

Consistency was key in a first place finish for Charles Mathis in the B Flight. Mathis, who made two birdies and a number of pars, shot a 38 on the front and a 39 on the back for a 77 on the round. Joe Lee and Bill Russell tied for second (80) – Russell made a birdie on the 18th to take the tie.

Mitch Green earned the win in the C Flight (82). Deno Contos placed second with an 89 while Bob Russell carded a 90, good for third.

A four-stroke lead after nine holes was just enough for Chris McAbee in the D Flight. McAbee took first with a score of 92 while Merle Sauvola and Brent Westbrook both finished two strokes behind, tying for second. Greg Minton placed fourth (96).
