The Golfweek Amateur Tour’s fourth regional event of the season, the Dixie Classic, took place on the National’s three separate nine-hole courses at Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Dixie Classic hosted 150 players representing 19 local tours for a weekend of competition and camaraderie.

In the Championship flight, Brian Quackenbush (Augusta) took the lead the first day and never looked back. While Quackenbush’s two-day score of 142 (74-68) was 16 strokes better than the next competitor, the rest of the field battled it out over the two rounds. Tim Saunders (East Tennessee) claimed second place with a two-day total of 158 (81-77) which edged out the third-place finisher, Matt Musolf (Augusta) by one stroke (85-74). Meanwhile Matt Ballard (Augusta) and Matt Crowder (East Tennessee) tied for fourth with the same scores both days (79-82) for a total of 161.

The Augusta Tour dominated the A Flight with four of the top six finishers. Jason Beck (Augusta) brought home the trophy after shooting an 82 on Sunday which gave him a two-stroke lead (80-82). Adam Davis (82-82) and Charles Hotlzclaw (79-85), also from Augusta, tied for second with 164. Following only one-stroke behind with two-day totals of 165 were David Knoor from the DC Metro Tour (88-77), Justin Beasley representing Augusta (85-80) and Mike Wilkins from East Tennessee (81-84).

Six different tours placed in the money in the B flight. The top spot went to Todd Smith from Atlanta. After carding an 87 on day one, Smith’s second day score of 75 earned him the hardware and a four-stroke lead overall (162). Randy Redden from East Tennessee placed second with a combined total of 166 (82-84). Right on his heels was Don Pennington from the Augusta Tour. Pennington’s 171 total (82-89) was enough to cinch the third-place spot and beat Sam Lewis from Hilton Head-Savannah by one stroke (87-85). Two other players shot an 85 on Sunday which resulted in Won Mun (88-85) and Bob Santee (89-85), both representing Atlanta, taking fourth and fifth respectively. Once again, only one stroke separated the next two finishers as Michael Miklos from Augusta (91-84) and Byron Johnson from Columbia (89-86) both ended the event with a 175. Rounding out the money list was Russ Donaldson from Birmingham with a two-day total of 178 (84-94) good for ninth place.

The Columbia Tour did well in the C Flight taking first, second and fourth. Anthony Toney’s two-day score of 176 (91-85) earned him the trophy as he posted the low round of day two with an 85. Both Crys Peyton from Columbia (88-90) and Darren DeCroock from Upstate (83-95) finished with a total of 178 for second and third. Dwight Williams from Columbia took fourth place (95-87) and Tony James from Augusta took fifth place (92-90). Sixth place went to DC Metro member Franklin “Shaggy” Brown with a combined score of 184 (95-89).

The D Flight winner was determined by a playoff after Daniel England from East Tennessee (94-95) and Nathanel Wilson from Augusta (95-94) had two-day totals of 189. After running neck and neck throughout the weekend, Daniel England settled it on the course to hoist the trophy. Although Atlanta member, Chris Webb posted the low round of the day at 92, his two-day total of 191 (99-92) earned him third place. Rounding out the field was John Greider from Columbia (97-96).
