Players across the Atlanta Tour found themselves at the Currahee Club in northeast Georgia for the first local event of the 2022 season. The weather was near perfect and so was the competition as close scores were posted throughout the five flights. Be sure sure to watch the videos of the winners via the red links or by clicking the individual pictures (below). Full tournament results may be found on the website as well (click here and use the drop-down menu).

Jacob Phillips got off to a strong start in the Championship Flight with a 39 in the first nine holes. His performance on the back was just as good, with pars on seven of the nine to hold a lead and earn the win with a final score of 78. Derek Foulke shot an 82, good for second, while Mike Low (a guest for the event) placed third (84). Foulke made three birdies on the round while Low had two.

Consistency was the word of the day for James Badgley in the A Flight. The Upstate SC Tour member shot a 39 on both the front and the back, capturing the victory with a 78. Badgley also made four birdies on the day. Chris Gray placed second (82) while Blair Enfield edged Ben Roberts for third, 85-86. All three of those players had a birdie on their rounds.

Jay Simons battled with Bob Santee for the top spot in the B Flight. Simons led Santee 42-44 heading into the back. Simons extended that advantage to three on the 11th hole, but Santee found himself with a one-stroke lead after a birdie on 12 and par on 13. Simons regained the lead on the 14th hole and extended it the next two holes, eventually coming away with the 83-86 win over Santee. Kadar Josey took third (88) while Matthew Fiedler carded a 91, one-stroke better than Upstate SC Tour member Jeremy Wilson, for fourth.

Play was close Saturday between C Flight participants Kenneth Gardner and Alex Franklin, a member of the Upstate SC Tour. Gardner held a two-stroke lead, 44-46, after nine holes. His advantage extended to three, but Franklin cut it to one stroke with a par on hole No. 11. Gardner pared 13 to double his lead, and the two players matched each other the remaining five holes, resulting in Gardner’s win, 86-88. Derek Wainwright shot an 89, good for third, while Lee Morris edged Mo Bashir for fourth, 92-93.

John Lewis was atop the leaderboard after nine holes and made the shots he needed down the stretch to capture the D Flight victory (92). Dennis Dreelin placed second, finishing one-stroke better than Mitchell Meaders, 94-95. Competition stayed tight down the leaderboard as a stroke separated the next three finishers: Steve Burruss (96), Donald Price (97), and Antonio Henderson (98).
