2019 Stonewall Orchard Recap

Stonewall Orchard Tournament Recap

It was that time of year again, the mid year major for the Chicago Tour. Members were welcomed to Stonewall Orchard, a club that has hosted so many tournaments that include USGA, CDGA, and numerous others it would take an entire article to list them. The weather was great and that was very much welcomed since this year has been tumultuous in that area. It was a special day for many, and for one it was years in the making

Champ Flight

Jackson Bussell made his tour debut in grand fashion with 5 birdies en route to a 3 over par 75. Bussell needed everyone to edge out Scotty Rolf by 1 shot. Peter Skiba and Nick Lanas tied for third, each shooting 78. Ben Kilborn leads the way in the Chicago Cup and the Wilson Scoring Challenge after 7 events.

A Flight

Eric Lee continues his great 2019 season with his second victory of the season. Lee shot 76 with 3 birdies to win by one shot over Eric Stevenson. Stevenson would like a redo on #18 but will have to wait until Thunderhawk GC for that redemption. Mark Gilliffo took third shooting 79 with 4 birdies. Lee is holding the top spot in the Chicago Cup standings while Fred Alaimo sits atop the Wilson Scoring Challenge leaderboard.

B Flight

Fabio Teso started his round with a birdie at #1 and another at #4 and didn't look back en route to a tense 1 shot victory! Teso shot 39-42-82 to win by 1 over Peter Wawire and Jim Pokorny, both shooting 83 with Wawire winning the scorecard playoff. Josh Borysiak leads the way in the Chicago Cup, while Chris Hadac is in the top spot in the Wilson Scoring Challenge thanks to his eagle on #3 at Stonewall Orchard.

C Flight

Lloyd Sigman played steady golf to take home the hardware at Stonewall Orchard. Sigman shot 42-41-83 to win by 1 shot over Dave Czerniak. Tour Rookie Gelmer Moran finished in third place shooting 42-43-85. Rick Pisarcyzk has a commanding lead on the Chicago Cup, while Frank Alaimo leads the Wilson Scoring Challenge.

D Flight

It was 8 years ago when Fred Alaimo "Senior" played his first Golfweek Tour event. April 30th 2011 at Seven Bridges Golf Club and his score was not great, yet week after week "Senior" teed it up; chasing that title and having fun along the way. Not once did he complain about bad rounds, and having had some success over the years, the tournament win was becoming elusive. He didn't give up. He had offseason surgery and was just thankful to be playing the game he loved again. He loves the tour. He loves the camaraderie. He loves being one of the guys and he has become the best friend of many and a father figure to others.

When Saturday's round was in process, a text message came across "Fred Sr Watch has been activated". Many watched the online leaderboard and when the moment came, and the final refresh button was hit, "Senior" was a champion. All of his desire and hardwork paid off. He carded a 96 to win by 1 shot over his friend Mike Schmitt (the two played as teammates the next day in a TEAM Tour event). "Senior" celebrated and was elated. So was everyone else. His trophy turned into a cup. The smile from ear to ear.

This is why the Golfweek Tour exists. This is why we run events. This is why we play golf. Congrats to our friend; "Senior". We're so proud of your perseverance and happy to watch you celebrate your accomplishment.

Oh yeah, "Senior" is also leading the way in the Chicago Cup and Wilson Scoring Challenge. After being the one chasing the leader, he is now the one being chased. Let the dream season continue for "Senior"

Up next for the Chicago Tour is a crossover event with the Milwaukee Tour.
