James Briggs won the D Flight after a 5-hole playoff

2019 Bull Run Recap

Contributed by Sean Naylor

Tony Bostic and Kelly Holliday found themselves in a Championship Flight playoff on Saturday. Holliday forced the playoff after overcoming a three-stroke deficit in the final three holes of competition. The two entered the playoff knotted at 76 but Bostic took the tournament win one hole later. David Pongrace placed third while Aaron Grocholski took fourth.

John Weitz used a birdie on the 18th hole to edge Kevin Murray, 80-81, in the A Flight. Murray trailed Weitz by two strokes heading into the back – he eventually knotted up the score on the 15th but was unable to match Weitz’s birdie on the final hole. Michael Dupree placed third with an 82 while Dennis Sidorski – who shot an Eagle on the 18th hole – carded an 83.

Damon Butler took the top spot in the B Flight with an 83. Jack Pereira edged out Steve Ogletree for second, 86-87. Fredy Carreon placed fourth with an 88.

Garry Branch used two birdies to earn the win in the C Flight. He carded an 85 on the round. Milton Tyrrell and Jim Jobson finished in a two-way tie for second (88) while, Sean Green and Robert Washington tied for fourth as each member carded an 89.

The D.C. Metro Tour saw its second playoff of the tournament, this time in the D Flight. It took five playoff holes but James Briggs was crowned victor over Shaggy Brown. Briggs used two pars and a bogey on the final three holes to knot the score at 92, forcing the playoff. Keegan Murphy rounded out the top-3 with a 94.
