Michael Phillips and Travis McKinney- Champ Flight Winners
The Knoxville Division of the EGolf AMATEUR TOUR held their second event of the 2008 season on Saturday, April 5 at the Willow Creek Golf & Country Club in Knoxville, TN. Willow Creek located off The Kingston Pike is a picturesque layout, with a beautiful clubhouse and full amenities, including a well-stocked pro shop. This course winds around the facility with only minor elevation changes. The front side is reasonably flat and winds through the valley. The backside has rolling fairways and all the greens, on both sides, are difficult to read. Putts can quickly get away from you, especially on down hill / down grain lies. The weather again played a big roll in the tournament. Early mist gave way to nice conditions until the short rain shower came. After the rain stopped, the temperature dropped quickly, making the last few holes cold and damp. The tournament played in four hours and thirty minutes, which is a great time considering the course conditions and cart path only rules. Michael Phillips took the Championship Flight honors with a score of 76 in a play-off with Travis McKinney, last tournaments winner. Ryan Gumbel placed third with a score of 78 with Clay Reynolds close behind in fourth. Clay had putting problems today, with five three putts or he would have been in the mix. The Championship and “A” Flights played from the Blue tees at almost 6900 yards, which with the wet fairways was long. Thomas Lee of Maryville breezed to the win in “A” Flight with a sizzling score of 79. Jeff Henry and Steve Cronberg, both from Knoxville, finished tied at 81 for second and third respectively. Wesley Clenney from Lenoir City finished in fourth place with an 84. Bruce Russell of Dayton captured the “B” Flight with a stellar round of 86 with Charles Reagan right behind with a score of 87. Charles had an Eagle on the very first hole out of the trees. Joseph Kuhn from Sylva, NC took third in a scorecard playoff with Dan Mitchell from Seymour, TN. Both players finished play with scores of 89. Scotty More from Knoxville squeaked out the win in the “C” Flight with a 94, just clipping James Reynolds who finished with a score of 95. Allen Aldridge from Powell, TN placed third with a 102, just beating out his playing partner Calvin Mills of Knoxville. The next EGolf Amateur Tour stop for the Knoxville Tour will be at Baneberry Resort and Golf Club in Baneberry, TN on Saturday, April 26. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, join the tour, and enjoy playing competitive tournament golf.
