John Harris - "B" Flight Winner
The Knoxville Division of the EGolf AMATEUR TOUR held their third event of the 2008 season on Saturday, April 26 at the Baneberry Resort & Golf Club in Baneberry, TN. The Baneberry Resort is a full service facility with Angelo’s Tavern on the Green, The Baneberry Spa & Facial Salon, and The Baneberry Hotel & Lodges. There is also a Golf Pro-Shop and Nationally accredited Golf Teaching Facility. Baneberry is less than ten miles off exit# 425 on I-40. The course is a winding layout, which emphasizes keeping the ball in play. The greens are tough to read with breaks and grain affecting every putt, especially the down grain & down slope areas. Once again, the weather threatened to affect our tournament, but cleared to a beautiful & sunny day. The slight breeze off the lake only made the great weather seem even more relaxing. The tournament played with three per tee group and finished in just under four hours. Everyone had a great time even if some of the scores were slightly high. This is by far the best playing conditions this season, hope it continues at our next Knoxville event at Dandridge Country Club. Ryan Gumbel again played well and took the Championship Flight honors with a score of 75. Greg Howell shot a 79 after a triple bogey on #16 to finish in second with Gary Borst a new member in third at 81. Thomas Lee breezed to the win in “A” Flight with a sizzling score of 76. Thomas has been working on his game and the results are showing. Steve Cronberg finished at 84 for second place. John Harris captured his second “B” Flight win with a round of 85 with newcomer Andy Winebrenner only one stroke off the pace at 86. Keith McCracken almost aced the par three 17th, but missed the short putt to come home at 87 for third place. Allen Aldridge had a rough front nine, but held it together to finish at 91 to win the “C” Flight. James Borst scored a 96 to finish second with Scotty More just behind with a 98. William Dickson is the only “D” Flight player we have had in Knoxville this year. He shot a 105 to win the nice trophy and gift card. William wants to know where all the 20 plus handicappers in Knoxville are, he needs the competition. The next EGolf Amateur Tour stop for the Knoxville Tour will be at Dandridge Country Club in Dandridge, TN on Saturday, May12th. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, join the tour, and enjoy playing competitive tournament golf. The EGolf Amateur Tour is open to all Amateur golfers of all ages.
