Travis McKinney- Championship Flight Winner
The Knoxville Division of the EGolf AMATEUR TOUR held their fourth event of the 2008 season on Saturday, May 10 at the Dandridge Country Club in Dandridge, TN. Dandridge is a shot maker’s type of course, with ball positioning a key to the correct approach to each green. Though large, the greens are tricky and some of the pin placements require precise shots to get on the same level as the flags. Even with the overnight rain, the course was in great condition and the greens putted smooth. The playing conditions were gorgeous with sunny skies and beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The tournament played in just 4 ½ hours, which is a very good pace. The course staffs were wonderful hosts for our tour even on a very busy day for the course. Travis McKinney steam rolled the Championship Flight with a sizzling 69. I heard stories of Travis falling in the lake, breaking his legs, or stealing his clubs as his competitors attempted to stop the train. Greg Howell placed second in a scorecard playoff with Ron May. Both players finished with 78’s in their attempt to catch the “Train”. Steve Cronberg scored the win in “A” Flight with a score of 76 with Thomas Lee and Wesley Clenney right behind with scores of 77 and 78. Gambling shots on the last holes determined the winner in this flight. Some said Steve played as if he had twenty clubs in the bag. Andy Winebrenner took his second “B” Flight win of the season with a stellar round of 77. Relief is in sight for “B” Flight as Andy who is striking the ball really well is moving up to “A” Flight. Charles Reagan scored an 83 for second place with Ronnie Hall in third with an 86. Scotty More scored the win in the “C” Flight with a 91. Scotty has played consistent all year and been in the mix at every event. James Hill placed second in a scorecard play-off with Allen Aldridge. Both players finished with scores of 94. Bill Dickson won the “D” Flight with a score of 96. He is collecting an impressive array of crystal trophies to go along with the fun of playing tournament golf. The next EGolf Amateur Tour stop for the Knoxville Tour will be at River Islands Golf Club in Kodak, TN on Saturday, May 31. We would like to encourage everyone to come out, join the tour, and enjoy playing competitive tournament golf.
