Indy Tour Gets Started at Otter Creek

The Golfweek Amateur Tour of Indianapolis got underway on Saturday, April 30 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, IN.  Otter Creek may have had the toughest conditions the players will face all year.  The fairways and greens were in great shape, but due to all of the rain over the last couple of weeks the rough was US Open length and longer.  A premium was put on hitting the fairway, but the windy conditions made that difficult.

Josh Earnest hit the inaugural shot for the Indianapolis Tour right down the middle of the fairway resulting in a birdie.  Josh was able to hold off Chris Hill for the Championship Flight title after being tied thru 13 holes.  The turning point was on the 14th hole where, Josh made his second birdie of the day and Hill had a lost ball in the rough giving Josh a lead he would not give up.

The ‘A’ Flight had a three way battle for the lead, but none of the players were in the same group.  Nathan Allen had the best front 9 of the day with a 39, which included two birdies.  Allen had a three shot lead over Kyle Zeitz and four shot lead over Dave Mitchell heading into the back 9.  Zeitz played the final four holes at 1 under for an eighteen hole total of 81.  Mitchell played a steady round of golf all day, but a tough 18th hole had him finish in third place.  Meanwhile, Allen avoided the big numbers on the way in leading to his 1 shot victory over Zeitz.

Daryel Johnson had a sizzling back 9 to win the ‘C’ Flight.  Johnson shot 41 on the back 9 leading to a round of 95.  Johnson’s 41 tied for the second best score on the back 9.

Casey Stansbury recorded his first ever victory on the Golfweek Amateur Tour.  Stansbury’s round was highlighted with a birdie on the par 3 thirteenth leading to a score of 98.

The Indianapolis Tour would like to thank Kasey Dickenson and the rest of the Lexington Tour for participating in the event.  Thank you to Otter Creek Golf Course and Head Golf Professional Chad Cockerham and his staff for a great day!
