Brickyard Crossing Results

Brickyard Crossing

The front row roared away from the first tee at 11:03am and they played at a pace no one else could match.  Jason Williams played in his first Golfweek Amateur Tour event and walked away with the checkered flag.  Williams 84 paced the field and led the field in the birdie count with three on the day.  Nathan Allen, winner last week at Otter Creek finished 2nd with a round of 86.  Rick Wigginton, director of the Indiana/Western Kentucky Tour, played the last four holes better than anyone else in the field at +2, but ended up one shot out of 2nd place.  As Tom Carnegie, former track announcer would say "It’s a New Track Record" the first group played in exactly four hours!

T.J. Schwarz was a first time participant in the Golfweek Amateur Tour as well and like Williams was able to walk away with the win.  Schwarz played steady golf all day firing a round of 86.  Richard Cairns of the Charleston, SC tour finished 2nd with a score of 92. More notable of Cairns round is this was the fifth tour he has played on this season.

On a day where the wind was up and played a factor in every shot, it was know where more apparent than on the final 4 holes.  The final four holes are all into the wind and as on any Pete Dye course they are also the four most difficult holes on the course.  Seven players were within 5 shots of each other thru 14 holes.  Howard Pavlofsky and James Guy had a two shot lead over Jim Allen and three shots over Kevin Brown.  Brown made a birdie on the 9th hole which kick started his run on the back 9.  Brown posted the best nine hole score of the day on the back 9 with a 42.  Unfortunately, for Brown he came up one shot short of winning the flight.  Pavlofsky and Guy were unable to hold off Allen’s steady play over the final four holes resulting in Allen’s round of 91.  Allen played the final four holes as well or better than anyone in the flight allowing the trend of the day to continue, first Golfweek Amateur Tour event, and first win.

Scott Allen went on to win the ‘D’ flight with a score of 98.  S. Allen’s round was highlighted with a birdie on the par 3 seventeenth, to hold off Casey Stansbury and Darrell Davis.

Brickyard Crossing was in fantastic shape and everyone enjoyed there round at one of the most unique golf courses you will ever play.  The host professional, Jeff Williams, and his staff were very accommodating as getting into the golf course was difficult for some due to 35,000 people participating in the 500 Mini Marathon taking place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The event attracted players from the; Columbus, OH, Lexington, KY, Indiana/W. Kentucky, Charleston, SC, and Houston, TX Tours. Thank you to all who participated.
