Golf Club of Indiana Results

The 9th stop on the Indy Tour visited the home of PGA Hall of Fame member Mickey Powell.  Powell was the President of the PGA in 1985-1986 before designing the Golf Club of Indiana.

The Golf Club of Indiana provided the First Playoff in Indy Tour History.  The 'A' Flight was extremely competitive with all scores within 5 strokes of one another, and four players within 1 shot of the winner.  Nathan Allen took an early lead after 9 holes. Allen shot 38, followed by Justin Northrup 40, Chris Vales 41, and Steven Stacey 42.  Allen lost his lead after the 10th hole, when he started the back 9 with a double bogey.  With four holes to play Allen and Northrup were tied while Stacey and Vale trailed by only 1.  Northrup made par on 15 & 16 to take a 1 shot lead over Vale and 2 shots on Allen and Stacey.  The 17th is a short par 3 with water short and left and bunkers surrounding the rest of the green.  Allen & Stacey went on to par the 17th to trail Northrup by only 1.  Northrup had trouble on 18 leading to his only double bogey of the day, opening the door for the other players.  Stacey found trouble off the tee leading to a bogey and a score of 81 to tie Northrup.  Vale and Allen both pared 18 and tied with a score of 80.

The playoff began on the par 4 10th.  Allen received a bad break when his tee shot buried at the top of a fairway bunker.  Vale went on to win the 9th event of the year on the playoff hole.

The 'B' flight continued to see domination from Chris Nold.  Nold joined the Tour late in the year, but has been a force in all 4 events he has participated in.  Nold fired an 85, to win by 5 over Robert Ubbing of the Columbus, OH Tour.

Jim Allen recorded the only birdie of the day on the back 9.  In addition to the birdie, Allen won the 'C' flight.

The Golf Club of Indiana was an excellent venue for the Golfweek Amateur Tour.  Jeff Rubenstein & Todd Glowacki were great to work with in the Golf Shop.

The Indy Tour Championship is next at Heartland Crossing on September 10-11.
