A perfect day to host our tournament at this historic venue, Las Vegas National Golf Club. This is the course where Tiger Woods played in 1996 on his way to capturing his very first PGA Tour victory and carded a 1-under par 70 (his highest of the tournament).

The staff was very professional and welcoming. Our 22 competitors found perfect warm and sunny conditions this past Sunday.

First of all, we’d like welcome our NEWEST Las Vegas tour members this season:

In CHAMP Flight, it was a battle between Tony Fortier & Kreg Klaver. Klaver had a 3-stoke lead on the front nine over Fortier. Then Fortier catched up to Klaver on hole 12, and it was a tight race from there. Fortier posted 77 to win the flight by two shots over Klaver who ended shooting 79 to take second place. This is the second win for Fortier on the tour this season and expands his points lead over Andrew Morehead for the season long 2019 Tour Championship.

In A Flight, John Benyo won by shooting a 76 and besting Mark Morgan by three shots. Benyo was unable to make a birdie on the first nine and ended making 3 bogeys but still shot 39. On the back nine, Benyo was able to make one birdie but had one double bogey. He then maintains his composure and posted a score of 76 and secured his win over Morgan who shot 79.

Frank Marks, our newcomer, took home the B Flight Champion honors as he shot an 85. Marks is now in the chase for point leader, Tim Heller. Way to go Frank!

C Flight was a real tight battle between a newcomer, Walter Sabati and Don Blanton. Sabati missed his bogey putt on number 18 to win the flight). They both ended up posting 85, and Blanton ended up taking home Flight Champion honors as he won the sudden death playoff.

D Flight was another tight race between Michael Cruz and Leonard Garcia (Los Angeles). Cruz won by one shot over Garcia.

Closest to the Pin winner was Walter Sabati on Hole# 8

Champ & A skins winners were Michael Andrews, Thomas Sadorf (2 skins), Mark Morgan, Hendra Wijaya, Darwin Rogers, Kreg Klaver, & Tony Fortier (2 skins)

C & D skins winners were Dead Seedfeldt, N W Espinoza, Walter Sabati, Donald Blanton, Rich Langley (2 skins), & Leonard Garcia.

Super skins winners were Dean Seedfeldt, Mark Morgan, Darwin Rogers, Kreg Klaver, Tony Fortier, & Rich Langley (2 skins)

Congratulations to all our CHAMPIONS and CASH winners. Our next tournament is Hero Challenge at Chimera Golf in Henderson. Registration Deadline is Sunday, May 12 at 5PM PDT.

The Golfweek Amateur Tour renews in Las Vegas!

Las Vegas; – Local golfers will again have a tour to call their own as the popular Golfweek Amateur Tour revamps its schedule to the Las Vegas area with an impressive schedule for 2019. The Golfweek AGT hosts a lineup of nine local tournaments beginning April 21st thru September 29th. The new season opens at Las Vegas National with additional stops and concludes with the Local Finals at TPC Las Vegas.

The tour is for amateurs of all ages and abilities. Members are placed in one of five flights based on handicaps. Flights are: Championship (0-3.9 handicap), A Flight (4-8.9), B Flight (9-13.9), C Flight (14-18.9) and D Flight (19.0-and above). This flight structure has always ensured even more competitive play within each flight.

Tournament format is gross stroke play, with USGA rules in effect. A software program tracks each player’s handicap to ensure participants are placed in their proper flight.  Once you begin playing on tour, the integrity of each flight is kept, and many players will be moved up in flights during the season. Also, each tournament has live scoring so players know how they always stand on the golf course, and friends and family can watch the scoring on our web page.

Local tour director’s Kreg Klaver & Hendra Wijaya have assembled a schedule of eight tournaments on some of the area’s premier courses. In addition to the opening venue, tour stops include Bali Hai GC located on the Las Vegas Strip, nationally recognized and voted top 100 golf courses in the world, Wolf Creek GC (currently listed in Golf Digest's Top 100 Public Golf Courses in America), in Mesquite, NV and Jack Nicklaus designed Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas. These courses provide some of the best golf in Southern Nevada.

“The Tour provides everyday golfers a chance to compete like the pros,” says Dennis McCormac, founder of the Golfweek Amateur Tour. “You don’t have to be a scratch golfer to join the Golfweek Amateur Tour; it is the Tour for the rest of us”.

At all Las Vegas Golfweek Amateur Tour events, the top golfers in every flight win Visa Cards, while all participants earn points toward a season-long championship in their flight. Closest to the pins and skins game will also be part of each tournament.  The Golfweek Amateur Tour hosted over 650 events in 2018 producing 39,000 tournament rounds for its members.

Golfers may join the tour at an early bird special price of only $80 until the first new event of the season on April 30th.   That fee includes a years Tour Membership, Golfweek Tour Goodie Bag, one-year subscription to Golfweek Magazine, a USGA Handicap Card and the ability to play in any GWAT event around the country.  There are 49 tours throughout the United States with Golfweek Amateur Tours and a total of over 5,200 players competing.
