A view of the Soldier Hollow Gold and Silver Courses from the Club House Deck

First Major of the Season at Soldier Hollow

Twenty seven players teed it up on the Soldier Hollow Gold course one week after the USGA used the venue to stage the 2012 Public Links Championship. The course was in perfect condition for our first major of the season.  The tough course layout, high rough, and fast greens forced the players to earn their doubled points.  Adding to the challenge, the Championship and A flights played from one tee back because of the high elevation of the course.  Twelve players took home prizes that included 1st place trophies, $540 of Edwin Watts -Uinta Golf gift certificates, and $125 cash prize pools for the "Closest to the Pin" game and the "Skins" game.  As scores were being tallied, a spectacular lighting storm awed the players who were watching from the club house deck.  The cool rainy air was a perfect ending to the hot summer day.

Tournament Details:

  • The Championship flight hit from the tips playing 7,598 yards.  New member Boo Bendinger won first place through a sudden death play-off with an 83 and a skin for his birdie on the eleventh hole.  Joe Jack, playing with a major shoulder injury, fought through the pain to come in second at 85 with a birdie on the ninth hole.  Jeremy Lieber, also a new member to the tour, was third at 86.
