2019 Stonewolf GC Tournament Recap

Stonewolf GC Tournament Recap

The 2019 St. Louis season continued at the famed Jack Nicklaus design: Stonewolf Golf Club. It has been difficult spring for St. Louis area clubs dealing with the weather, but the crew at Stonewolf did a good job getting the course ready for the tournament. The day was tough with windy and cold conditions, but the members persevered and the champions earned a hard fought victory in each flight.

Champ Flight

JD Sabio took 2nd place at the season opener at Missouri Bluffs, this time he came out on top; scratching out a 1 shot victory over Dan Silva from the tips at Stonewolf. Sabio made a birdie on the final hole to capture the title! After 2 events, Sabio leads the way in the both the St. Louis Cup and Wilson Scoring Challenge.

A Flight

It was a 2 player battle for most of the day, as Nate Hampton and George Tudor (playing in the same group) engaged in a tight back and forth battle. Hampton started off well on the front nine and Tudor had a great back nine. In the end Hampton prevailed by two to take home the hardware. Marco Tallerico currently leas the St. Louis Cup standings, while Mac McMillan leads the way in the Wilson Scoring Challenge.

B Flight

Once again, the biggest flight of the tournament, David Watson made his tour debut and posted a rock solid 84 to win by 3 shots over Scott Riley and David Gray. Riley's 3 birdies were a nice consolation with 2 of those winning some skins money. Watson's victory catapulted him to the top of the standings in both the St.Louis Cup and Wilson Scoring Challenge.

C Flight

In another tightly contested battle, an extra hole was needed to determine the championship as Larry Mikeska and Rob Maguire were deadlocked after 18. The windy conditions proved to be the winner, when the wind knocked down Mikeska's approach and pushed it into the small pond on the first sudden death playoff hole. Maguire played it safe and tapped his in putt to win the tournament. Brad Reynolds currently sits atop the St. Louis Cup standings, while Mike Scalera holds a slim lead in the Wilson Scoring Challenge.

D Flight

Linda Bozada fought her way to the winners circle, claiming the title by 2 shots over Charlie Bieser. Bozada's round included 5 pars in the difficult conditions, which each were need to close out the tournament victory. Her victory pushed her to the top of the leaderboard in both the St. Louis Cup and Wilson Scoring Challenge after 2 events to start the season.
