SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 2015
BENTWINDS COUNTRY CLUB
===============================================================
|
Bentwinds - Secures its Place As one of Top Playing Private Courses in the Triangle.
Bentwinds Country Club was designed and shaped through farm lands, tall pines and oaks.
Recently renovated, Kris Spence took what was a great base to make Bentwinds one of Central North Carolina’s finest golf courses. Strategic bunker placement and wonderfully defined tiff sport bermudagrass fairways creates challenging shot angles to the A-1 A-4 bentgrass greens.
Tour players will encounter narrow fairways, sloping greens, and a variety of hazards at Bentwinds. Regardless of when you play Bentwinds finishing holes Nos 16, 17, and 18, they could present difficult challenges that will require you to carefully place your tee shots and demand solid iron play to reach these well-protected greens.
Tour Members who have played here before, always makes this venue one of the courses they play during the season. For you newbies, that means don't miss this gem.
To reserve your place and to sign-up, please reply to this email, sign-up on-line or call Bruce Hallenbeck.
Everyone loves this course and you will have a chance for a career round.

REMINDER - YOUR NEW TOUR NAME
The Triad and Raleigh/Pinehurst Golfweek Amateur Golf Tours for 2015 has a new Tour name.
As all Tour "veterans" are aware, in the past the Triad and Raleigh/Pinehurst Tour schedules have been identical.
Beginning on the 2015 schedule, the two tours will be merged to form a newly named Tour: The Central Carolina Tour.
By taking this step we will avoid any confusion as to where you may have finished overall in a certain event because all competitors will be listed together for each tournament on the website. While this will result in having only one Points Standings listing, the prize pool and everything else will remain the same.
As always,to register and to sign-up to play or if you have any questions, please let me know.

"Can't Complete the Low Round?
"Improve Your Golf Mental Toughness"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf
EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!
Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.
-
It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)
-
It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).
-
It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

DAD SHOWS SON HOW IT'S DONE IN GOLFWEEK TOUR EVENT
Bermuda Run, NC
March 7, 2015
Anthony Powell of Colfax started playing on the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour approximately three years ago. His primary goal at that time was to provide a competitive environment for his son Grant, who had shown a natural ability in golf, to further develop his skills under tournament conditions while providing them both with some quality father/son time.
Grant flourished in the Tour environment, moving up from the A Flight division to Championship and winning numerous events along the way. Unfortunately for Anthony, the wins didn't come as easily for dad as they did for his son. That all changed today at Bermuda Run West Country Club as Anthony cruised to a 4 stroke victory in the A Flight. In fact, his 75 was the lowest score of any flight in the event.
"Grant was playing in another event today at Grandover Resort and I told him I would win my event if he won his. He finished third, but I held up my end of the deal" stated Powell. "I kept my head in the game and never gave up. It's great to finally win one".
While the Championship Flight played from over 400 yards farther back than Powell's A Flight, Tour veteran Neal Faulkner of Gibsonville trailed Powell by only a single stroke in taking first place in the flight. "Neal knows what it takes to win 'on-Tour' " said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "He's won a bunch. With the wet fairways that they played on today, those extra 400 yards made it a lot tougher".
Another Tour veteran, Burt Flowers of Lewisville topped the B Flight competition with an 80. It was his 4th career Tour victory.
Jason Beeson claimed the top prize in the C Flight with an 87 and a single stroke margin of victory over Greensboro's Ken White, while Durham's Tony Eaves was D Flight king with a 92.
Next up for the Golfweek Tour is Bentwinds Country Club in Fuquay-Varina on March 14.
There are openings available for that event and any amateur golfer interested in competing can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or by email at behgolf@aol.com to receive further information.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #293
Zeke’s tee ball has come to rest on a cart path. The nearest point of relief and the one club-length relief drop from the path would be on a freshly sodded area marked as GUR. Play from the GUR is not restricted, but it is obvious to Zeke that if he wanted relief from the GUR it would have him dropping back on the path.
How should Zeke proceed?
A. Since there is GUR on one side of the path, he should simply drop on the opposite side, away from the GUR and play on.
B. He may take relief from both situations by finding the nearest point of relief that is not in a hazard nor on a putting green. He should then drop the ball with one club-length of that point, no nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief on a part of the course that avoids interference from both the cart path and the GUR.
C. He may lift and drop the ball in accordance with Rule 24-2b(i). If the ball is indeed now in the GUR, since relief is not mandatory, he may choose to play the ball as it lies. If he chooses relief, he should proceed in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i). If he chooses relief from the GUR and after his drop the ball comes to rest with interference with the cart path, from this new at rest position, he may now take relief under Rule 24-2b(i). If his new nearest point of relief is back on the sodded area instead of repeating the previous exercise, he may take relief from both conditions as detailed in B above.
D. Because of the “exceptions” to both Rule 24-2 and Rule 25-1, he must either play the ball as it lies on the path or declare the ball unplayable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer
C. Yes, a complicated answer, but correct for this very unique situation. This circumstance may seem similar to the Question from week 292 but differs in one major respect—that being with the initial lie of the ball there is interference with only a single condition and the player has no choice except to play the ball as it lies or seek the specified relief under the appropriate Rule. If, after the initial drop, the ball now has interference with a second condition, he may choose relief or decline it. If relief is taken and the ball ends up back with interference with the original condition, one more look at the condition for this third relief drop is necessary to confirm this is a special situation requiring an exception to a normal relief drop point, as stated in answer B, but only after first performing the back-and-forth and then analyzing the third relief situation to confirm it is a seemingly endless circle.
In some situations, you may find after taking relief from the first condition, your result is very favorable to that which might result if you proceeded any further.
Likewise, after taking the second condition relief drop, having interference again with the first, you may find the nearest point of relief now is clear of the second condition and so you would proceed normally at that point. This is the reason you must pursue this process to this point, to see if in fact, the situation cannot be resolved without employing the exception. See Decisions 1-4/8 and 1-4/8.5 for more information.
This is another situation where knowing the Rules and how to apply them can work to the player’s advantage. Knowing ahead of time that the entire lift/drop within 1 club-length of the nearest point of relief process will likely be done at least twice, the player may be able to map out a strategy that will work to their benefit so that when the ball is finally deemed in play with no further action required, the player may be in a better playing condition than would result without any thought beforehand.

Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
