East Course
When this venue is part of the Tour, it is always Tour member's favorite. Don't miss this one.
Opened in March 1996, the East Course was designed by Gary Panks and David Graham. Many of the greens complexes were designed to give a stadium effect around them. The tree lined fairways provide a seasonal blaze of color offering the feeling of being in a nature preserve in America’s heartland of golf.
In 2011, the East Course added six new tee areas to stretch the total yardage to 7250 from the championship tees.

Improve Your Golf Fitness To Play Better Golf During Your Round.

From: Stephen Ladd – Founder, Renegade Golf Fitness Institute
Are you serious about your golf game? I mean obsessed with crushing your drives, sticking your irons and draining putts? Not to mention becoming top dog in your foursome?
I thought so…
No doubt you’ve noticed the rise in popularity of fitness programs for the top players on all the Tours. Maybe you’ve started a fitness program in hopes of adding more power and distance, but aren’t getting the results you were hoping for . . or even worse, you end up injured and can’t play at all.
Trebuchet MS
There is one primary reason for this, and I’m going to tell you all about it. But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Stephen Ladd, and my obsession is training golfers as athletes, and developing their bodies to better use their golf skills and play to their peak potential. I have been doing just that for over 16 years… long before the “golf fitness” craze began.
I have been trained and certified through the most prestigious golf fitness organizations in the world, including The Titleist Performance Institute and CHEK Institute.

TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT

FAYETTEVILLE'S HARDEE SETS GOLFWEEK MARK
Southern Pines, NC
March 11, 2015
While Jordan Spieth was setting records at Augusta in the Masters, some Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour participants were shooting impressive scores of their own at Hyland Resort.
Included were some record-breaking numbers never before posted in local Tour competition.
Larry Hardee of Fayetteville continued his dominance of the Championship Flight posting a 67 from the 6,782 yard back tees. Despite his posting the lowest score in local Tour history, he was only 2 strokes clear of Tour rookie Tristan Lough of Elon who was playing in his very first Tour event.
Hyland Resort Winner: Championship Flight - Larry Hardee
A Flight - Chase Suitt (picture unavailable)
"Larry has been really tough lately", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "He won the season's first "Major" event last week at Bryan Park near Greensboro and has finished at the top or near to it in every event we'd played so far this year. It's good to see some 'new blood' come along to challenge him. I think Tristan will give him some fair competition down the road".
Another Fayetteville resident, Chase Suitt also posted a record number, tying the best A Flight score shot locally with a 68. While the A Flight played from tees that were over 500 yards shorter than the Championship players his number produced a 'runaway' win, 5 shots clear of Laurinberg's Robin Neverve.
"After shooting an impressive score like that,. I'm sure Chase's future events 'on-Tour' will occur in the Championship Flight", said Hallenbeck.
Multiple Tour event winner Marcus Dudley of Raeford had to go 2 extra holes of "sudden death" playoff to edge Raleigh's Nick Slager for the B Flight crown. Both had regulation 78s to outdistance a quartet of players who were only 1 shot back.
Hyland Resort Winner: B Flight - Marcus Dudley
Only 6 shots separated first place from last in the C Flight competition as Landon Wilkes of Apex enjoyed a single shot victory over Fayetteville's Mike Krick and Raleigh's Jeff Smith with an 86. Mr. Wilkes was also the sole winner in the friendly "Skins Game" for the B, C, and D Flights.
Hyland Resort Winner: C Flight - Landon Wilkes
D Flight - Vince Thompson (picture unavailable)
Tour newcomer Vince Thompson of Mebane has been a regular fixture in the D Flight since the season began. His 87 was good for a 5 shot win over Charlotte's Seth Hawkins. "Vince has finished 'in-the-money' regularly lately, this win was no suprise", quipped Hallenbeck.
The Golfweek Tour goes at it again next Saturday at Grandover Resort in Greensboro. There are openings for any amateur golfer interested in playing in that event. Simply contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or email him at behgolf@aol.com.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Questions from week #298
Decide True or False for the following statements:
A. My ball lies under a bush where I’ll probably declare it unplayable. First, though, I want to check and see where two club-lengths might put me if I go with that option. When I lay the head of my driver against the ball I accidentally move it about an inch. True or false, if I change my mind and end up playing the ball as it lies, I’ll need to replace the ball and add a 1-stroke penalty for moving my ball in play.
B. My ball lies on the right edge of the cart path that runs down the left side of the hole. If I choose relief, my nearest point of relief is clearly on the right side as well. Because I am right-handed I need to include my stance to accurately determine the nearest point of relief. True or false, even though I only have about 100 yards to the flag, in simulating my stance I can use any club in my bag to determine the spot for the nearest point of relief.
C. In taking relief from an immovable obstruction, I have correctly determined the nearest point of relief. I know I can then drop the ball within one club-length of the nearest point of relief and after the ball is dropped it can roll up to two club-lengths from that point no nearer the hole. True or false, the club that I use to measure both the one club-length “drop within” distance and the “up-to” two club-lengths distance should be the same club.
D. True or false, the club I use in situation B must also be the same club I use in C.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answers:
A. False. A ball moved accidentally in measuring is exempted from penalty under Rule 18-2a and R18-6 provided it is replaced if to be played.
B. False. The Definition of nearest point of relief states the player should use the club he would have used had the condition (in this case a cart path) not been there. With only a hundred yards remaining, the selection of clubs the player would have used would probably be just one or two choices, and the driver or long putter would be a doubtful choice.
C. True. One advantage to knowing the Rules is to recognize when they can be your friend. When dropping on sloped terrain, knowing the ball will likely roll some distance after being dropped, it may be to the player’s advantage if the ball eventually gets to be placed. To aid in that goal, the wise player will begin by measuring his “drop within” 1 club-length distance using a short club, perhaps his putter, if that is the shortest club in his bag. Then when the ball is dropped, that same short club should also used to measure the 2 club-lengths the ball is permitted to roll before requiring it be re-dropped or eventually placed. Recall that the measurement of the allowable 2-club roll starts at the point where the ball first strikes a part of the course, not from the extent of the area of your allowable drop. Also, if your goal when dropping is that the ball will roll, then face downhill when you drop. That will slightly increase the distance the ball actually drops and will promote more roll.
D False. Two separate procedures, two separate clubs would likely be involved.
Remember, when measuring in for situations B or C, the player may estimate those distances without actually employing a club, especially when the distances involved are obvious. However, when trying to maximize or minimize the same, to be precise and not over or under shoot, mark the extent of your allowable drop area with a tee and also mark the spot where the ball first struck the course on the drop so your measurements leave no doubt.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
