As the 4th Major Tournament of the year you should be reminded that only a few play dates remain to earn points, double points are awarded to all who play this week and flight winners get their cards punched as automatic invitees to the National Tour Championship at the season ending tournament.
Anderson Creek was designed by Davis Love III, and is his first signature course in North Carolina. Plus, Davis Love won at the Wyndham Tournament this weekend at a young 51 years old.
Anderson Creek was rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest in 2008 and was the winner of the "Best New Course in NC" award for 2001. This traditional layout reflects all that is great about golf in the Sandhills – rolling fairways lined with longleaf pines, natural areas highlighted with love grass.
The greens’ large roll-off areas and significant undulations offer a challenge to those who miss their approach shot to the greens. Low scores are attainable in all flights but this course will bite if you blink. Plus, all of you should be playing your best game now anyway.
P.S. Double Points awarded to all who play.
P.P.S. Flight Winners get automatic berth to National Tour Championship at end of year regardless of total points ranking in flight.

NEWSOME TAKES GOLFWEEK PLAYOFF
Clemmons, NC
August 22, 2015
Winston-Salem's Terry Newsome was playing close to home at Salem Glen Country Club. Henry Lister of Chapel Hill was not.
In the A Flight, the two finished their original 18 holes in today's Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event with identical scores of 76. As is the case with all 1st-place ties "on-Tour" they headed back out on the course to decide the matter in a sudden-death playoff. Local knowledge seemed to pay off for Newsome as he made short work of the playoff, winning on the first extra hole. "Terry is a factor in every event he plays". stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "When he's playing on a course he's familiar with, he's doubly tough".
Salem Glen Flight Winners ( left to right):
C Flight - Andy Bousman; D flight - Keith Thomas;
A Flight - Terry Newsome
Playing from the back tees, Kernersville's Sean Pardue appropriately posted the lowest round in the entire event in the Championship Flight competition. He had a comfortable 6 shot margin over runner-up Neal Faulkner of Gibsonville with his even par 72. Pardue's round included 5 birdies, with 3 coming in his last 5 holes.
Salem Glen Flight Winners
Championship Flight - Sean Pardue;
B Flight - Dave Boger (photo unavailable)
Dave Boger of Greensboro enjoyed his first Golfweek win in this, his "rookie" season with the Tour. His 80 was good enough for the B Flight crown, just nipping Tour vet Jack Frazier of Clemmons and Stoneville's Chris Walker by a single stroke.
No stranger to the winner's circle, Andy Bousman of Kernersville posted one of his best Tour scores ever in winning the C Flight with an 83. High Point's John Begovich was runner-up with an 85.
Another multiple winner on-Tour who came through today was Greensboro' Keith Thomas in the D Flight with a 94 for the win, like Bousman, he enjoyed a 2 stroke margin over his runner-up - Shane Kilby of Clemmons.
Next up for the Golfweek Tour is the season's 4th and final Major Championship at Anderson Creek Country Club in Spring Lake.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #318
On the sixth hole there is a drainage ditch designated as a lateral water hazard with walls constructed from old railroad ties. After suffering damage from heavy rain one section of wall partially collapsed and was repaired. The wall was rebuilt, dirt filled back in and sod laid on the section of the course adjacent to the hazard. The sodded area is mostly recovered, but still deemed GUR. The marked GUR on the one side terminates at the red painted line that defines the lateral water hazard.
Choose the correct answer:
A. My ball has come to rest near the new wall, and is marginally playable. Though my ball is inside the hazard line, my stance is outside the hazard in the GUR. As a result, I am entitled to penalty free relief as stipulated under Rule 25-1 or I may play the ball as it lies as there is no prohibition against playing from the GUR.
B. My ball has come to rest near the new wall and is playable. My ball is inside the lateral water hazard and my stance would be in the GUR. Play from the GUR is prohibited according to the sign (local rule). Because play is prohibited, I am entitled to penalty free relief as stipulated under Rule 25-1.
C. My ball has come to rest outside the hazard but in the GUR and is playable.. My stance however would be inside the lateral water hazard. I am entitled to free relief as stipulated under Rule 25-1 or I may play the ball as it lies as there is no prohibition against playing from the GUR.
D. Either all of the above are correct or none of the above are correct.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer
C. (Did you really think I would give you a question with a correct answer like D?)
The descriptive course condition (i.e., OB, water hazard, bunker, abnormal ground condition) on which a ball lies dictates the player’s options when a combination of those conditions are present between stance and ball position.
When a ball lies inside the margins of a water or lateral water hazard, and the player’s stance is outside the hazard in an area deemed GUR, the player may play the ball as it lies (assuming play from GUR is not prohibited by the Local Rule), or take relief under Rule 26-1. In the case where a ball lies just inside the hazard margin and the player’s stance is in GUR, but play from the GUR is prohibited, the player must not play the ball as it lies.
The player must proceed with an appropriate option from R26-1. If that option would have the player dropping within the GUR, then once the dropped ball is correctly put into play, the player would then take relief from the GUR under the guidance of R25-1. He would typically drop the ball within one club length of the nearest point of relief outside the GUR. The nearest point of relief must not be nearer to the hole than where the ball lay in the GUR and must not be in a hazard or on a putting green.

===============================================================
Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
