The Golf Club at Quail Ridge in Sanford was the site of the Golfweek Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour event on Saturday April 9th. The weather was cool, partly sunny, partly cloudy, and a bit breezy. But the course was in perfect condition which allowed for good scoring.
In the Champ flight, Steven Hamby fell behind early in the round but finally took control on the fifth hole and rolled to a six shot win by posting a one over par 73. Runner up honors went to John Zoppi shooting 79, while Stephen Pippin from the Eastern NC Tour finished third carding 80. At T4 and rounding out the top five it was Kyle Moffit and Stevie Blankenship with identical scores of 84.
The A flight required a playoff as Jay Yergeau and Lonail Locklear ended up tied at 82. They proceeded to the course for a decision and Jay captured the win on the first playoff hole with a par putt that Lonail was unable to cover. Tour Director Chuck Smith was third with a score of 85. Michael Tooley from the Eastern Tour, 86 and Robin Neverve, 88 finished 4th and 5th respectively.
In the B flight, Alec Cates put his three birdies to good use as he posted 80 to capture first place for the second time this season. Paul Harmon and Jason Smith ended their rounds T2 with 82’s. Curtis Dabney stood alone in fourth place carding 85, while Ken White and Rob Andrews finished T5 with matching scores of 88.
Another playoff was called for in the C flight as Shawn Cacioppo and Tom Kubla matched cards with scores of 84. Just like Jay in the A flight Shawn dropped a par putt on the first playoff hole that Tom wasn’t able to cover after coming out of the bunker. Toby Sheehan from the Eastern Tour took third place home with an 88. Johnny Sears and Sebastian Restrepo completed their day at T4 with scores of 89.
A third playoff was necessary in the D flight as Tour Director Sola Edwards and Charles Krick from the Eastern Tour tied at 91 in regulation. So they also had to go out for more golf. And as in the other two playoffs, Sola was victorious making her par putt as the sun broke through the clouds on the first playoff hole collecting her first win in 2022. Christopher Thurow was third place this day posting 92. One shot behind Chris, Marb Myers carded 93 to receive fourth place points. Marvin Moore rounds out the top five as he shot a 95.

Pinewood CC hosted the Golfweek Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour on Saturday March 26th. The weather was cool with blistering winds, but it was sunny all day.
In the Champ flight, Jake Girouard from the Eastern NC Tour made his ‘trip’ worthwhile by shooting 75 to take top honors. Timothy Barto from the Charlotte Tour was runner up posting 77. John Masotti also from the Eastern NC Tour placed third carding 79. Cole Howard and Robert Dabbs finished T4 with scores of 85.
Eric Stanwick from the Charlotte Tour shot 80 to clinch the win in the A flight. James Branham was second place with a score of 82. Dan Anthony and Chuck Smith ended the day T3 as both posted scores of 84. Hank Frankenberg rounds out the top five scoring with an 85.
In the B flight, Rob Andrews scored a six shot victory as he fired an excellent score of 79. Bernie Loehr became the runner up with a round of 85. Greg Groce finished third with an 89, while Cooter Douglas from the Myrtle Beach-Wilmington Tour claimed the fourth place spot as he carded 92. And rounding out the top five John Lilley shot 94.
Shawn Cacioppo won back to back events in the C flight as he followed his win at Bayonet at Puppy Creek last week with a score of 90 winning by two strokes. Tom Kubla was the runner behind Shawn for the second time in as many weeks as he posted 92. Scott Richardville, Kevin Perrault, and Andy Parker all finished T3 with identical scores of 94.
In the D flight, Charles Krick from the Eastern NC Tour scored a two stroke victory as he carded 93. Second place was secured by Greg Dotson with a score of 95. Marb Myers claimed third place firing 96. Meanwhile, David Rosier and Mike Charles ended the day T4 shooting scores of 100.

Saturday March 19th, the Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour arrived in Raeford to take on Bayonet at Puppy Creek. The very windy conditions raised the challenge level for the competitors.
Larry Hardee pulled off the win in the Champ flight by a single stroke with a score of 76. Chase Suitt was runner up shooting 77, while Christopher Berry claimed the third place slot with a 78. John-Paul Hansen placed fourth carding 79 as John Zoppi rounded out the top five with an 80.
In the A flight, Jay Yergeau cruised to a five shot win posting 78. Second place was a tie at 83 by Ben Devine from the Washington DC Metro Tour and Jeff Broadwell. Three players tied for fourth place with scores of 85. The players were Mack Kenny and Jeff Parker from the Eastern NC Tour, and James Branham.
A playoff took place in the B flight as Alec Cates and Bernie Loehr matched scores of 82. Alec must have wanted to get out of the wind as he birdied the first playoff hole for the win. Henry Lech took home third place honors with a score of 85, while Derrick Brown ended the day in fourth with an 86. Allen Ballew from the Myrtle Beach-Wilmington Tour rounds out the top five posting an 87, as John Lilley placed sixth carding 88.
In the C flight, Shawn Cacioppo earned a three shot victory firing an excellent score of 85. Runner up Tom Kubla posted 88, while Joe Candleana placed third shooting 90. Dustin McClanahan and Mike Sutton from the Myrtle Beach Wilmington Tour ended T4 with scores of 92. Scott Richardville and Bennett Miller were T6 with 94’s.
Vince Thompson breezed to a five stroke win in the C flight posting a score of 89. Christopher Thurow collected second place with 94, and Eddie Watson from the Eastern NC Tour took third with 95. Marb Myers was fourth posting 96, while Sola Edwards and Rick Boyer from the Washington DC Metro Tour were T5 shooting a pair of 98’s.

Monday March 7th marked the opening day of the 2022 Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour. The fabulous MacGregor Downs CC hosted the event. A challenging golf course, made more challenging by the windy conditions.
In the Champ flight, David White squeezed out a single stroke victory by posting a one under par score of 71. Kyle Moffit’s even par 72 placed second. AJ Jackson from the Charlotte Tour shot 77 to claim third, while John-Paul Hansen carded 81 in the fourth place finish. Rounding out the top five, Spurling Cook shot an 83.
The A flight winner, Paul Harmon’s score of 86 edged out three competitors by a single shot in victory. Bob Sheahan from the Eastern NC Tour, Chuck Smith the Central Carolina Tour Director, and Dan Anthony all posted 87 to end the day T2. Jay Yergeau finished fifth by shooting 88.
In the B flight it was yet another single shot win as Greg Groce fired 85 to take down Peter Pentony who posted an 86. Bernie Loehr and Ken White ended their day T3 as both posted 89. Eddie Jaggers and John Lilley finished T5 with matching scores of 91.
Doug Harvey breaks the trend of single shot wins by carding a score of 85 to win the C flight by three. It was Kevin Perrault shooting 88 to finish runner up behind Doug. Third place through fifth were all identical scores of 90. The golfers posting those scores were JD Osborne, Andy Parker, and Hector Luna.
The D flight winner also won by three as Marb Myers shot 95 to hold off Joan Wicker as she posted 98 in the runner up slot. Eddie Watson from the Eastern NC Tour fired 99 to take home third place honors. Christopher Thurow and James Dockery finished T5 as both shot 101.
The Central North Carolina Tour moves to Raeford to tackle the Bayonet at Puppy Creek GC on Saturday March 19th. See you all there.
