Curtis Bass- "B" Flight Winner
The Western Piedmont division of the EGOLF AMATEUR TOUR held their second event of the 2008 season on Saturday, March 15 at the Gastonia Municipal Golf Club in Gastonia, NC. The Muni course is not long but can be very treacherous. The course and the greens were in great condition until the torrential downpour started. The weather shortened the event to nine holes to the disappointment of all of the players and directors.
David Cauthen of Belmont, NC scored the win in the Championship Flight with a score of 36. Lee Dorn of Gastonia shot a 37 for second, with Doug Newton of Forest City right behind for third and Mike Cochran of Gastonia in fourth.
Donald Cantrell of Shelby shot a 37 to take “A†Flight honors over two players who shot 42’s. Steve Rogers of Gastonia won the scorecard play-off for second with Ronald Walker of Shelby taking third.
Curtis Bass of Gastonia scored the win in the “B†Flight with a 38 over Andy Murrow and Scott Jackson. All three players are from Gastonia. Andy took second in a scorecard playoff. Both players finished the front nine with scores of 41.
Tony Parker of Hickory captured the “C†Flight by one stroke over David Morris of Marion, NC who shot 49. David Smith of Statesville took third with a score of 50.
Dominique Beam of Dallas shot 40 to capture the “D†Flight honors, with Danny Morris of Marion, NC right behind with a 41. John Shipley finished third with a 42.
The next EGolf Amateur Tour stop for the Western Piedmont Tour will be at Crowder’s Mtn. Golf Club in Gastonia, NC on Saturday, March 29.
