Wet Conditions Make For a Long Course!
Hunters Creek Golf Course was the host course for the most recent Upstate Tour golf tournament. The course was in great shape, but the wet conditions made the course play very long. The pin placement on some of the greens made for very challenging putts and made it very difficult to attack the pins on approach shots. Regardless of the conditions, 65 players took to the course to continue the quest to win the season long points totals.
The Championship flight was a contest between Jody Clary of the Upstate tour and Carlton Parker of the Atlanta Tour. Though both players had an enjoyable day on the course; the length of the tees that they were playing plus the wet conditions made for a long day. In the end it was Jody Clary who fired a solid round of 82 that took home the top spot. Carlton Parker carded an 87 on the day.
The A flight saw a very tight battle between in the top three finishers today. With only 2 strokes separating first place from third place, it was a tightly bunched group at the top of the A flight. Danny Garrison (77) was able to hold off late round charges by Eric Conway (78) and Adam Shealy (79) to capture the title today. A very impressive round by all three players.
The biggest flight of the day was the B flight with 27 players competing today. Again the top three were close at the end of the day. But it was a career round for Cody Brown that took home the top spot. Cody fired a 1-over par 73 on the day to take home a 4 shot victory in the B flight today. After his round, Cody was promoted to the A flight. Congratulations on the promotion Cody and keep up the great play the rest of the year. Coming in second was Talib Kapasi (77) and Brian Williams (78) rounds out the top three.
The C flight wanted to get into the tight battles today too. With only 3 strokes separating first from a three way tie for third it was a great day in the C flight. Rodney Quesenberry fired a solid round of 86 to edge out Dan Smith (87) to take home the trophy and the top spot today. Todd Garret, Dustin Wheeler and Ken Baker all finish T3 with 89’s on the card. Nice playing by everyone today.
The D flight saw Timothy Riordan pull away late and secure a 5 stroke victory today. Timothy fired a solid 90 today to claim another victory. Toney James finishes second on the day with a 95 while Gary Bott rounds out the top three.
Congratulations to all the golfers today and thank you to everyone that keeps showing up at the tournaments. This is truly a great tour and it is because of you players that we are one of the best in the Golfweek family!
