Our second event of the season comes to us from Country Club of the North. Players were met by soggy conditions at this Jack Nicklaus design, yet gave it their all to try and capture the title in their respective flights. The day made for a lot of excitement seeing five first time winners.
Up first is the Champ flight. Last week’s winner Matt Sander (Cincinnati) battled Deontey Kenner (Cincinnati) all day long seeing the lead change hands multiple times. Sander was able to hold off Kenner by one shot, firing a fine round of 73 to Kenner’s 74. This win gives Sander back to back victories to start the season. Joe Goldschmidt (Cincinnati) was third with a 76. Brandon Johnson (Cincinnati) and Dustin Fields (Cincinnati) were tied at 78 with Johnson taking fourth in a scorecard playoff.
A flight saw Jon Prater (Cincinnati) nail down his very first victory riding two birdies to finish with a 78. Last week’s winner Kory Hemm (Cincinnati) was second with a round of 80. Ryan Slone (Cincinnati) was third with an 81 and fourth was Kevin Dick (Cincinnati) with an 82.
B flight was led by Peter Detty (Cincinnati) who won by three shots over Gary Shinkle (Cincinnati) shooting a fine round of 80 to Shinkle’s 83. Last year’s B flight Player of the Year, Michael Anderson (Cincinnati) finished third with an 84. Miguel Tinajero (Columbus OH) was able to secure fourth after a scorecard playoff over Nathan Weidner (Cincinnati) and Jason Vanderpool (Cincinnati) with an 85.
C flight found a first time winner, Tanner Anderson (Cincinnati), wrapping up a one shot victory shooting an 86 besting Scott Grossarth (Cincinnati) who scored an 87. Robert Ward (Cincinnati) and Dennis O’Connell (Cincinnati) saw themselves tied with rounds of 89. Ward finished third after a scorecard playoff.
D flight served up yet another first time winner with David Donnelly (Cincinnati) capturing the trophy with a round of 91. Michael Didion (Cincinnati) was one shot back with a 92 and David Hall (Cincinnati) was third with a 93. Dwight Blair (Cleveland/Akron) was fourth with a 96.
In the Senior Tour division we had another first time winner in the Champ flight. David Mosley (Cincinnati) was able to hold off last week’s winner James Hubbard (Cincinnati) by one shot with a round of 83 to Hubbard’s 84. With one victory each to start the season, we look forward to watching these two battle it out all season long.
In the Senior A flight, James Snyder (Cincinnati) played steady all day shooting a fine round of 78 besting Jeff Zipay (Columbus OH) who found himself one back with a 79. John Dicker (Cincinnati) and Greg Hahn (Cincinnati) tied with rounds of 80. Dicker took third after a scorecard playoff.
Next up is the Senior B flight. Yep, you guessed it, Kelly Woods (Cincinnati) makes our fifth first time winner of the year. Woods held off Jim Siders (Columbus OH) by two shots firing a round of 90 over Siders’s 92.
In the Senior C flight, Jaymee Hooshangi (Cincinnati) wrapped up the victory shooting an 86. Rick Gordon (Columbus OH) took home second with a round of 89. Tom Wesdorp (Cincinnati) came in third with a 107.
Finally the Senior D flight wraps things up for the event. Scott Goodhart (Cincinnati) won his second tournament in a row firing a round of 99.
