~~~ Tournament Recap ~~~
Perched high above the North Salt Lake valley, the Golfweek Amateur Tour was hosted by Eaglewood GC for a single-day, Saturday event on August 29th.
In CHAMP flight, Daniel Meaders (72) was uncontested and added 450 points to his ledger in a tune-up towards bringing home the championship hardware for Salt Lake next weekend at TPC Scottsdale.
Matt Stevenson(74) and  Jeff Clifford (74) tied atop the A-Flight leaderboard, after both players would bogey the drive-able, par-4 18th. An on-course playoff sent the players back to the Par-4th 10th. Each would miss the green with their approach shots; Clifford was unable to save par but Stevenson was able to hit his chip to about 5 feet and rolled in the par putt to claim the title. This was Stevenson’s first win in A-Flight, after being promoted earlier this summer. Clifford however would add critical points to his lead over John Gordon in the season long standings. Tour rookie Patrick Sherwood(76) rounded out the money line in 3rd place.
It is back to back wins for Aaron Bascomb(77) as he wins B-Flight by two strokes over Dustin Criddle (79). Bascomb creates some breathing room in his quest for a season-long B-Flight championship.
Garrett A. Danielson(80) finished in 3rd place. Van Mortensen(83) and Corey Marsh(83) tied for 4th place, with Mortensen bettering Marsh with a better LAST SIX (28:29). Tony Lamph (84) was just inside the money line, finishing in 6th place. David North(90) captures his 3rd win of the 2020 season. North jumped out with a great 42 on the front nine and then hung on as Shawn Hammer (91) and Brian Robbs (92) made their charge up the back nine. Hammer would have a 25-footer for birdie on 18, but it slid off to the left and he would miss out on a playoff by 1 shot, settling for runner-up honors. Brian Robbs finished in 3rd place.
D-Flight featured a first-time champion in Jason Hester(90). Hester made the turn with a 7-shot lead and never looked back. James Goodfellow (98) finished in 2nd place and Mike Eames(99)rounded out the money line in 3rd place.
Overall CTP winners were Michael Hollan(#4), Kevin Curtis (#8), Garrett Danielson (#15), and Dave Harrison(#17). Super Skins winners were Mike Eames (#1), Jeff Clifford (#2), Jeremy Ferkin(#5), Patrick Sherwood (#14), and Garrett Danielson (#15).
Congratulations to all our Flight Champions and various winners on the day. Our next points event will be next weekend for a regional 2-day major, as we send 24 players to Phoenix for the Western Players Championship at TPC Scottsdale, home of the PGA Tour’s Waste Management Open.
