2019 Turnberry CC Recap

Turnberry CC Tournament Recap

The last regular season Chicago event was played at Turnberry CC. It was great day and a good host course as a final tune up before the Chicago Cup Playoffs. Check out out our champions and be sure to read up on the Chicago Cup Playoff guidelines!

Champ Flight

Cully Johnston was dominant and triumphant shooting a 1 under par 71 to win by five! Second place went to Nick Lanas, who got as close as 1 back, but the steady play by Johnston prevailed. Third place went to Peter Skiba. Johnston's win puts him in the top 4 of the Chicago Cup. Skiba leads the way in both the National Tour Championship Standings and the Chicago Cup, while Lanas has taken over the Wilson Cup thanks in part to his eagle on 13 this past weekend.

A Flight

A 3 player playoff stared when Steve Moreci, John Park and David Doerr finished their round with 74s. When the dust settled Doerr outlasted the group and won on the second playoff hole. Moreci won the scorecard playoff for 2nd, while Park took third. Eric Lee is still the player to catch in the Chicago Cup and National Tour Points races, while Fred Alaimo clings to a 15 point lead the Wilson Cup due to his 3 birdie effort this weekend!

B Flight

Brian Barnes was the player to catch this past weekend, shooting a 79 to win by 1 shot and best of the 29 player B Flight field. Barnes day was highlighted by birdies at 8 & 13. Tim Fyfe finished in 2nd place while Bart Sitarz finished in 3rd. Tim Fyfe has stayed in the top spot of both the Chicago Cup leaderboard and National Tour Standings, while Barnes 2 birdie, 9 par day put him in the top spot of the Wilson Cup standings.

C Flight

It's often said a par is a great score and that's what James Fifer needed on the 18th hole to claim the hardware. Fifer got it and along with it the 1st place prize. Fifer edged out a competitive field shooting 86 highlighted by a birdie at 4. Andy Sardina took second place, one shot back, and Patrick Ignacio took third. Rick Pisarczyk is still leading both the Chicago Cup and the National Points race while Mike Cokins stayed into the first spot of the Wilson Cup Standings.

D Flight

After just missing out the prior tournament at Highlands of Elgin, Eric Bonnecare came back and broke 90 to win by 1 shot! Bonnecare's round was highlighted by 7 pars and a very consistent effort. Second place wen to Trang Nguyen while Ed Mallet took third. With his 2019 splash of a season, Fred Alaimo Sr is the only flight leader for the "trifecta": the Chicago Cup, Wilson Cup, and National Points race!! Should be an exciting playoff season!!
