Quail Ridge GC
May 6th, 2023
By: Tom Kubla

The Central North Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour arrived in Sanford on Saturday May 6th to tackle The Golf Club at Quail Ridge. Great greens and fairways made for great competition. The cooler morning temps quickly turned to a warm summer day with a very light breeze that led to some good scoring.

In the Champ flight, Eric Parziale fired a one over par round of 73 collecting his first win of the season. Kyle Moffett continues to play well as he took runner up honors shooting 75. Steven Hamby shot 81 to claim third place, while Kerney Black placed fourth carding a score of 86. Ben Holloway rounded out the top five recording a score of 89.

In the A flight, Director Chuck Smith brought his A game to the course posting a 76 for a four shot victory. The runner up score of 80 was turned in by two players, Buck Kercheval, and Brian Bunn from the Eastern NC Tour. It was a trifecta of scores for the T4 finish as Victor Rivera, Dana Parziale, and Jason Watkins all posted scores of 81.

And now the B flight. Ah the B flight. No less than four, yes four players tied for first place. Ricky Urbach from the Charlotte Tour, Mike Ivy, Steven Zannos also from the Charlotte Tour, and Shannon Holt all posted rounds of 83. So off they went to hole1 for the four way sudden victory playoff. Ricky and Shannon made par on hole 1, but Mike and Steven did not so they fell out of the playoff. After matching scores on hole 2, Ricky and Shannon moved on to hole 3 where Ricky poured in a par putt that Shannon was unable to match giving Ricky the hard fought win. Well done Ricky!  Jacob Gregory rounded out the top five with his round of 84.

The C flight also required a playoff as two players tied with rounds of 85. Our newest member Ben Smith and veteran Bill Mock also went out to hole 1 to determine who would be taking home the crystal and first place honors. Unlike the B flight, this playoff didn’t go three holes as Ben made a par to Bill’s bogey for the win on the first hole. Good job Ben!  Joe Candleana carded 86 to finish third, while Ed McNally’s score of 88 put him into fourth place. Giovanna Jackson and Curtis Dabney posted 89 as they rounded out the top five.

In the D flight, Charli Wicker posted a very nice round of 88 to take her first win on the Golfweek Tour by six shots. Great job Charli!  Justin Cook from the Charlotte Tour and John White shot 94 in their runner up finish. Fourth place was also a tie as Ryker Wicker and Joan Wicker shot  matching scores of 100, while Sola Edwards carded 102 taking sixth.

After a short break, the Central North Carolina Tour returns to action at the Carolina Trace CC in Sanford on Saturday May 27th and Sunday May 28th. We’ll be playing the beautiful Lake Course on Saturday and Creek Course on Sunday. Sign up today for your spot on the roster.
