This past weekend, we were fortunate to enjoy exceptional weather at the outstanding Firekeeper Golf Course; however, we inadvertently scheduled our event a week before the course hosted the U.S. Open Qualifier, resulting in particularly thick rough.
We had a substantial prize purse of $4,000, with 60 members participating, alongside an additional $4,000 available in cash games. The tournament commenced with the Championship Flight, featuring five competitors, including Mitchell Baker and Adrian Stan-Busuioc, who were both participating in their first Golfweek Amateur Tour event.
After the first day, Adam Trainor held a two-shot lead over Kory Glasgow and a three-shot lead over Stan-Busuioc, while 2024 Player of the Year J.R. Munson trailed by four shots. As day two unfolded, with just nine holes remaining, Trainor, Glasgow, and Stan-Busuioc found themselves tied. Stan-Busuioc then delivered an impressive performance, achieving a remarkable nine-hole par streak on the back nine, which ultimately secured his first Tour victory. Glasgow finished in second place, while Trainor slipped to third.
Brandon Gilpin, the 2022 Player of the Year, emerged as the frontrunner after the first day of the A Flight competition, posting a score of +7. Kasey Tolle and Matt Thorman followed closely, trailing by two strokes, while Scott Glodowski and Earl Wood were three shots off the lead.
On the second day, Glodowski began strongly with a birdie on the first hole, narrowing the deficit to two strokes until Gilpin matched him with a birdie of his own on the same hole. Glodowski maintained an even par score on the front nine, while Gilpin displayed commendable resilience, finishing with a +1 on the front. Gilpin then played an even par on the back nine, ultimately securing the victory, with Thorman finishing in second place. Notably, Kelly Sellers delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a score of +5 and advancing from 11th to 5th place.
After the conclusion of Day One, the final standings for the B Flight were as follows: Cliff Austin at +8, Mike Sellers at +9, Kirby Rogers at +10, and Derek Lewis at +11. On Day Two, Sellers maintained his strong performance, finishing with a score of +8, which secured him a victory by six strokes over the competition. As a result, Austin earned $330 for his second-place finish, while Jacob Wedekind received $270 for securing third place. Following their performances, both Austin and Sellers have been promoted to the A Flight.
Following the first day of competition, Tracy Hanback and Scott Miller were tied for the lead in the C Flight, both posting scores of 88. Kathy Haeffner closely followed with a score of 89, while Dillon Meal recorded a 90. On the second day, Alan Parker distinguished himself by achieving birdies on both holes 17 and 18, culminating in the lowest round of the day for the C flight and establishing a clubhouse score of +39. Ultimately, only Miller surpassed Parker, finishing at +36 and securing his first Tour victory along with a prize of $500. Parker took second place, earning $300, while Hanback received $200 for third. Notably, Ray Krueger made a remarkable ascent on the leaderboard, moving from a tie for last place after day one to seventh position. Excellent round, Ray!
D Flight, Darin Domnanish made his return to the Tour in 2025, finishing the first day with a one-shot lead after scoring 91, closely followed by Alex Chung, who recorded a score of 92. Cliff Austin Jr. and Bill Yeager also advanced to the final group with scores of 95. On Day Two, Chung demonstrated exceptional performance, beginning with a par followed by a birdie, ultimately securing an easy victory with a score of 88 and earning a promotion to the C Flight. Followed by Cliff Austin Jr. finishing in second place.
