Fred Arbanas 2025 Results

We had 42 participants from the Kansas Golfweek Tour tee off at 8 AM at Fred Arbanas Golf Course. It was unmistakably the second day of summer, with temperatures already reaching 85 degrees and humidity at its peak. Additionally, the wind, gusting at 20 to 30 mph, could influence our gameplay and add an intriguing challenge.

We extend our gratitude to our fifth-year sponsor, Capital Tax & Consulting LLC, and Jennifer Gordon, for their continued support. We also appreciate the professionalism of the pro and staff at Fred Arbanas for ensuring the tournament's success.

Despite having only two players, the Champ Flight has developed into a competitive rivalry. JR Munson took an early lead, being two strokes ahead after two holes, but Caleb Morrison caught up after five holes and established a two-stroke lead at the halfway mark. Morrison sustained his strong play throughout the final nine holes, achieving his second win of the season. We wish Caleb success as he competes in the Golfweek Regional in Branson on June 30th.

A thrilling playoff concluded the tournament, featuring Steve Kowalski of ‘The CRUE’, and Mike Sellers, while Joel Brooks, Kelly Sellers, and Art Spelts finished just one stroke behind. Brooks showcased his skill by birdieing three holes on the back nine, including the last two, but ultimately fell short of the playoff.

During the front nine, Mike Sellers held a two-stroke lead over Kowalski, with Spelts trailing by three strokes. However, after three holes on the back nine, Kowalski and Sellers were tied, with Kelly Sellers only one shot behind after starting the back nine with three consecutive pars. Kowalski fought hard to regain a two-stroke lead as he approached the final hole but encountered his only double bogey of the day, necessitating a playoff.

In the end, Sellers triumphed after the first playoff hole, while Spelts, Kelly Sellers, and Brooks all finished just one shot shy of the victory.

In an impressive comeback, another one of ‘The CRUE’, Matt Carson secured the B Flight title, overcoming an early deficit of +5 after his first three holes. Carson's remarkable performance, finishing with a score of +3 over the final nine holes, culminated in a well-deserved five-stroke victory over Chris Roark, marking his first win on the Tour. Congratulations to Matt Carson!

During the first 13 holes of the tournament, at least 10 players in the C Flight were vying for the lead. Brad Haeffner, making his first appearance in the C Flight, began with a score of +4 after six holes, which initially placed him in first. However, after nine holes, Ron Allen seized the lead with a score of +6, closely followed by Tim Greenwood at +7, Bob Murphy at +9, and three others at +10.

As the competition progressed, Kathy Haeffner surged to the forefront with a score of +10 after achieving consecutive birdies, joining six other golfers who were within one to three strokes of her. Ultimately, Greenwood maintained his composure down the stretch to secure victory with a final score of +14. Chance Russell and Bob Murphy finished just one stroke behind, while Kathy Haeffner concluded two shots back.

Congratulations to Tim Greenwood for claiming the top position in the C Flight and taking home the trophy.

In the D Flight, Cliff Austin Jr. achieved his first victory, starting with an impressive score of +4 after nine holes, while Bobby Blankenship and Steve Sahr trailed by six strokes. Dustin Palmer's commendable performance over the final seven holes, where he recorded a +4, alongside Sahr's +5, which resulted in a tie between Sahr and Austin with three holes remaining. Ultimately, Austin secured the win with a birdie on the final hole, finishing three strokes ahead of the competition. Congratulations to Cliff, and best wishes for success in the upcoming Midwest Regional in Branson.
