Our tournament at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course featured the most favorable weather conditions we have experienced to date. Additionally, the participation of six Champ Flight players was a notable enhancement to the event. Caleb Morrison emerged as the leader after nine holes, posting a score of +1 and enjoying a five-stroke advantage over Keegan Gowin. Keegan commenced the back nine with consecutive birdies on holes ten and eleven, narrowing the deficit to two strokes. He secured another birdie on hole 18, ultimately finishing just one stroke behind as Morrison claimed yet another victory.
The A Flight featured ten competitors, with Kirby Joy and Andrew Zeigler initially performing well, both at +1 after four holes. Travis Bryant, Chris Santoya, and Earl Wood were two shots behind at +3. However, the challenging course created fluctuations in the leaderboard. After ten holes, Matt Thorman recorded two birdies, elevating his score to +5, while Zeigler’s score increased to +7 and Joy's to +8. In the final six holes, Bryant made a notable comeback with a score of +2, but Thorman matched his performance, also finishing at +2. Ultimately, Thorman secured victory by three strokes over Bryant, with Zeigler claiming third place.
The B Flight showcased Dillon Rogers, who began with a strong performance, securing a birdie on his third hole and maintaining his lead through the first eight holes. At +3, Rogers held a two-stroke advantage over Alan Parker, while Matt Jensen, Kelly Bordewick, and Brandon Hale trailed at +7. After twelve holes, Rogers expanded his lead to four strokes over Parker, with Jensen six strokes behind, striving to position himself within the prize money. Ultimately, Rogers concluded the tournament with two birdies in the final stretch, finishing at +8. Jensen also performed well, completing the last six holes at +1 to secure second place.
The C Flight commenced with John Governski off to an impressive start, finishing the first four holes at plus one. He was followed by Don Dawson at +2, and Tim Greenwood along with Kathy Haeffner at +3 after ten holes. As the round progressed, the leaderboard indicated Greenwood in the lead at +6, with Dillon Meals and Scott Miller closely behind at +7, and Haeffner at +8. Ultimately, Greenwood clinched victory, propelling him to the top of the Player of the Year standings with a final score of +12, thus earning a promotion to the B flight.
Dan Grodzicki concluded his round strongly, securing pars on three of the last five holes, which allowed him to tie for second place with Jeff Rader, who matched the same performance. Miller, despite a challenging finish, ended in fourth place with a score of +18 after struggling on the final four holes, concluding at +7.
The D Flight commenced with Cliff Austin Jr. achieving a birdie on his opening hole. Brad Haeffner followed suit, securing a birdie on the second hole and ultimately leading the front line with a score of 40. He was closely followed by Mark Fuqua, who finished with a score of 43, and Austin Jr., who recorded a 44. Haeffner maintained his lead by scoring a 45 on the back nine, with Fuqua securing second place and Austin Jr. finishing in third.
