The Golf Club at Deer Chase and Osage National Golf Resort presented a formidable challenge for every competitor, featuring dramatic elevation changes, demanding tee shots, and some of the toughest greens. Over the course of two days, golfers vied for The Open Title, where consistency, patience, and mental resilience ultimately made the difference.
Champ Flight
JR Munson dominated the Champ Flight title with a strong finish, including a tournament-low round of 69, concluding at 145 (+3). After a steady opening round of 76, he took control early in the final round with birdies on the first four holes, achieving a remarkable 32 (-4) on the front nine. Aaron Mickelson, one shot behind after a 77 and finished second at 158 (+16). Caleb Morrison, starting close after a 79, but finished third at 159 (+17). The decisive moments occurred during Munson's birdie-filled front nine, leading to a significant lead. Munson's consistent play secured a commanding 13-shot victory, showcasing patience and precision throughout the tournament.
A Flight
The A Flight, turned into a two-man showdown as Cliff Austin delivered the best round of the weekend to take the lead on Sunday. After starting with an 82 and trailing Jerry Callahan and Seth Williams, who shared the lead at 78, Austin made a strong comeback with an even-par 36 on the front nine, quickly erasing his deficit. Austin maintained steady play, finishing with a final round of 75, totaling 157 (+13) for the win. Williams finished second at 158 (+14) and Callahan third at 164 (+20). The title hinged on Austin's consistent front nine performance, leading to a well-earned comeback victory.
C Flight
The C Flight, featured an exciting storyline with Scott Miller initially leading after an opening-round 84. Tim Murphy quietly mounted one of the strongest recoveries, a string of solid pars helped him work back into contention after the turn on Day One. Miller started the final round with a four-shot lead over Caleb Frazier and Garrett Hall (LA North), while Clint Carter was five shots back. Miller maintained his lead until the back nine, where he stumbled on No. 10, allowing Carter to catch up. Carter took control, and despite Frazier's late charge, he finished the round with a second-round 89 and a total of 178 to win the title. Miller and Kathy Haeffner tied for second at 180, while Jeff Pivonka improved significantly to finish fifth. Carter's strategic play and composure secured his victory in the C Flight title.
D Flight
The D Flight, began with Ray Krueger leading at 88, three strokes ahead of Robert Rosenbaum and John Seglie. Cliff Austin Jr. and Mark Fuqua followed closely at 92. On Day Two, Rosenbaum quickly tied Krueger and took the lead by hole three, reaching the turn one stroke ahead. Fuqua climbed into contention, equalizing Rosenbaum's lead by No. 14. It was tied through the 15th, but Rosenbaum regained the lead on No. 16. In a tense finish, Rosenbaum scored a five on the final hole, while Fuqua scored seven, allowing Rosenbaum to win the championship with a total of 181, three strokes ahead of Fuqua’s 184. Austin and Seglie finished third and fourth, respectively.
