Southaven, MS – The Northcreek golf course is a short, easy course, but this only if you believe golf is an easy sport! A morning shotgun helped beat the heat and humidity to some degree, but it was still an awful steamy day on the course. Scoring overall suffered because of the sauna like conditions on an otherwise beautiful day for golf. Thanks to Alan Rickman and the entire staff at Northcreek for a great tournament.
Champ Flight – Ed McDugle and new member Justin Hiller finished their first 10 holes with 43 shots apiece. They proceeded to match each other’s score on every hole for the next 7, and then came the par three 17th hole, their last hole of the day. Ed hits his shot to about 7 feet, and then with the pressure on, Justin hits a great shot to 3 feet! Ed just misses his birdie putt, and with the win in sight, Justin knocks it in! What a battle! Great win Justin! It’s the first time in a long time that the 4 time reigning points champion has been beaten, so Justin made a big splash in his first tournament.
A' Flight- Not to be out done by the champ guys playing right in front of them, Phillip Roberts and Tommy Warren had their own made for tv battle going all day. After 10 holes, Phillip was leading by 1 stroke, and Tommy parred #10 while Phillip made bogie. The two stayed tied until the 13th hole, a dogleg left par 5, where Tommy made bogey to Phillips birdie. Phillip plays 14 and 15 in 9 strokes, and Tommy birdies 15 to cover those same holes in 7 strokes, so the two players are tied again! Their last two holes of the day are back to back par threes, #16 & #17. Tommy hits it to 8 feet on 16, and Phillip then hits his to 4 feet. Tommys putt lips out while Phillip makes his for birdie. The players go to #17 with Tommy down by one stroke. Tommy lips out again from 12 feet and gets par. Phillip misses from 10 feet and also gets par and the win! Another great battle! Thomas McMurdy had a ringside seat to both battles and takes third in A’ Flight. On another note, Tommy and Phillip have split the last 4 tournaments with 2 wins apiece.
B' Flight- Mike Bertoldo tried to do away with drama and shoots 86 to win. Thanks a lot Mike! Tim Western and Jon Speer grabbed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
C' Flight- Bill Barker shoots and second consecutive 90 on tour, and its good enough for his second win in a row. Andy Darrow tightened up the overall point’s race by shooting 93 and taking second place. Andy Gregory shot 97 to get 3rd.
D' Flight- Newcomer to the flight, Richard Ward, shoots a 90 to win his first tournament! Congrats Richard! Scott Sagarra shoots 91 for second, while Ricky Akins grabbed 3rd.
