
Matt Green, John Dobbins, Tyler Hutson, Bill Butts, and Butch Novak all won the inaugural Ohio Regional at Firestone Country Club!
The 2025 Golfweek Amateur Tour made its first visit to Firestone Country Club. Tour members representing 18 local Tours from across the Nation traveled to Akron, Ohio, to compete on the North and South courses of Firestone Country Club. The competition among the sold-out field of 112 participants proved to be exhilarating, with each of the five flight winners securing their spot at the 2025 National Championship this October.
In the Championship Flight, Matt Green, and Dorian Vauls, both representing Cincinnati/Dayton, faced off on the South course throughout Sunday. After completing 36 holes, the two competitors were tied at a score of 152, necessitating a sudden-death playoff. Following two additional holes, Green emerged victorious, claiming the title at the first ever Ohio Regional. Green's scores over the two days were 77-75-152, while Vauls recorded scores of 74-78-152. Brian Polick (Cleveland/Akron) finished in third place with a score of 157, followed closely by Eric Snodgrass (Columbus) and John Chupp (Michigan), both at 158.
In the A Flight, John Dobbins (Hilton Head/Savannah) secured the title decisively with scores of 76-80, totaling 156. Kory Hemm (Cincinnati/Dayton) and Eric Shields (Columbus) finished tied for second place at 164, with Hemm claiming the second-place prize through a scorecard playoff. Colton Horton (Dallas-Fort Worth), Jerry May (Central NC), and Doug Cristina (Mississippi) all tied for fourth place.
In the B Flight, Tyler Hutson (Tour Director Cincinnati/Dayton) achieved a two-stroke victory, completing his rounds with scores of 78 and 78, resulting in a total of 156. Christian Van Rafeighem (Cleveland/Akron) finished in second place with a score of 158, while Amal Irudayaraj (Tour Director Indianapolis) secured third place with a total of 162. Jason Baumann (Indianapolis), placed fourth with a score of 171, followed closely by Andre Finnerson (Cincinnati/Dayton) in fifth with a total of 173.
In the C Flight, Bill Butts (Cincinnati/Dayton) triumphed by a margin of three strokes, achieving scores of 88-82 for a total of 170. Nic Gilchrist (Michigan) secured second place with a score of 173, while Ryan Nicholson (Indianapolis) finished third with a total of 179. Greg Rybarczyk (Cincinnati/Dayton) placed fourth based on scorecard playoffs. Kevin Mansfield (Columbus) completed the top five with a score of 182. Notably, Todd Horton (Cincinnati/Dayton) and Stan Mitchell (Chicago) both finished with scores of 182 but did not earn cash prizes.
In the D Flight, Butch Novak (Tour Director Columbus) achieved victory by securing the crystal with consistent scores of 89 and 89, totaling 178. Michael Wilson (Cincinnati/Dayton), finished in second place with a score of 183, followed by Lee Waldeck (Michigan), who recorded a total of 190. Additionally, Jacob Smith (Michigan) and Will Spittle (Tidewater, VA) tied for fourth place, each concluding with a score of 191.
