The Golfweek Amateur Tour squads from Tidewater, Richmond, and DC Metro teed it up at Stonehouse Golf Club for an electric opening round of the Old Dominion Challenge.

Under sunny skies and picture-perfect conditions, the stage was set for a true test of golf—and Stonehouse delivered. With 106 players in the field, every flight faced a demanding layout that required precision, patience, and clutch execution.

From the first tee to the final putt, competitors stepped up in a big way. Clutch putts dropped, pressure-packed swings delivered, and standout scores rolled in as players battled not just for individual glory—but for team pride.

CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHT RECAP

The Championship Flight battle came down to the back nine, where Mike Hartselle delivered when it mattered most. Firing an even-par 36 on the closing nine, Hartselle surged to the top of the leaderboard with a 2-over 74.

In dominant fashion, this victory marks Hartselle’s 4th Straight Old Dominion Challenge win—a statement performance under pressure.

Finishing just behind, Chris Greenfield carded a strong 76, tying for second place alongside Terrance Bordley, who matched the number in a tightly contested finish.

A FLIGHT RECAP

It was Tour Rookie JD Somerset who stole the spotlight in the A Flight, firing a 2-over par 74 to claim his first Old Dominion Challenge victory in style.

Somerset delivered the moment of the day on the 18th hole, carding a clutch eagle to lock up the win—and grab one of the coveted Super Skins in dramatic fashion.

B FLIGHT RECAP

A seasoned veteran rose to the top as Carlos Quinones (Tidewater) delivered a clutch performance, carding a 79 to take home the B Flight title and make a strong move up the standings.

Quinones set the tone early and finished strong, recording birdies on Holes #2 and #18 to seal the victory in style.

The C Flight delivered pure drama as Todd Lorenz (Tidewater), fresh off his Frostbite Challenge victory, came through in the clutch once again—birdieing the first playoff hole to secure a walk-off win.

Lorenz fired a strong 84 in regulation, tying with fellow Tidewater competitor Bobby Eckel, who matched the number to force the playoff.

D FLIGHT RECAP

Jimmie Williams (Richmond) rose to the occasion, grinding out a solid 90 to capture the D Flight title by a single stroke.

Down the stretch, Williams showed true composure—carding three pars over his final four holes to lock up the victory when it mattered most.
