GREENBRIER COUNTRY CLUB DELIVERS ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP TEST!
The Tidewater Golfweek Amateur Tour returned to Greenbrier Country Club on Monday, and once again the course proved why it remains one of the premier stops on our schedule. With immaculate fairways, lightning-fast greens, and perfect summer weather, the 92-player field was treated to an outstanding day of championship golf.
Championship Flight
It was the same story as Dennis Nelson continued his incredible 2026 season, firing a 1-under-par 71 to capture the title by two shots over Matthew Spruill. After opening with two early bogeys, Nelson played his final 13 holes in 3-under par to secure another victory. Jeff Hawkins finished third with a 77, followed by Chris Greenfield in fourth with an 80.
A Flight
Mark Hanna kept his hot streak alive after winning the Virginia Senior Championship last week at Sleepy Hole. Hanna followed it up with a 76 at Greenbrier to earn back-to-back victories. Justin Taylor finished second with a 77, Matthew Taylor of the Richmond Tour placed third with an 81, and Bords Alingig rounded out the top four with an 82.
B Flight
The most dramatic finish of the day belonged to the B Flight. Lyle Joyner capped off an exciting battle by chipping in on his final hole to claim the victory. Marcus Godinez finished second with an 83, highlighted by a sizzling 38 on the back nine. The 2024 Player of the Year, Kevin Bryars, took third with an 86, while Aaron Hellman finished fourth with an 87 after posting a strong back-nine 39.
C Flight
Pete Mantoni continued his outstanding play by winning for the second consecutive tournament. Following his Eaglewood victory, Mantoni cruised to a six-shot win with an 81. Jeff Williams finished second with an 87, Dre Beaufort was third with an 88, and Richmond Tour member Patrick Smith claimed fourth with an 89. Beaufort also captured the entire $400 C Flight Skins purse as the day's lone skins winner.
D Flight
Maguel Brooks returned to the winner's circle for the second time this season. After opening the year with a victory at Royal New Kent, Brooks added another title with a 90, finishing two shots ahead of Will Spittle (92). Ted Thorbjornsen and Brian Emerson shared third place with rounds of 95.
Congratulations to all of our flight champions, day money winners, and everyone who competed in another outstanding Tidewater Golfweek Amateur Tour event.
