Bryan's Park 2-Day "The Carolina Cup" May 30 & 31, 2026

A two day Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event was held at the Bryan Park Golf Complex in Browns Summit. Play took place on Saturday May 30th on the Champ Course, and Sunday May 31st on the Players course. The weather was great and the courses were excellent. A contest to claim The Carolina Cup took place between the Central Carolina and Charlotte Tours.

In the Champ flight, Joe Jaspers visiting from the Charlotte Tour had an awesome weekend of golf at Bryan Park, as he posted a two under par 70, and a one over par 73 for a one under par total of 143 to take the victory. Wonderful golf Joe!  Runner up honors also went to Charlotte with Robert Arnold posting 75-74-149. Stephen Pippin grabbed third place shooting 81 and a one under par 71-152 total, while David Schmidt (Charlotte) placed fourth with scores of 78-76-154. Fifth place was a T5 as Steven Hamby and Chris Gooch both carded 156 with Steven shooting 82-74 and Chris shooting 76-80.

In the A flight, Riley Gooch and Spurling Cook mirrored each other all weekend as both players posted identical rounds of 77-75-152 requiring an on course playoff. Riley and Spurling took off for hole one to put an end to this incredible tie once and for all. It didn’t get done on the first hole as they tied yet another hole so off to hole two they went. Spurling’s bogie was not quite good enough as Riley rolled in his par putt  to finally take hold of the victory. Awesome golf Riley, and Congrats!  Meanwhile, third place was a three way tie with Roger Stevenson posting 82-76-158, David Stringer (Charlotte) shooting 80-78-158, and Kerney Black carding 78-80-158. Sixth was a T6 as John Crooks posted 85-75-160, along with Charlotte Tour Director Scott Ide’s 80-80-160.

The B flight saw Frederick Levine get hot on day two and pull out the victory with scores of 85-79-164. Great golf Frederick!  Sean Mitchell (Charlotte) collected runner up honors by carding rounds of 84-82-166. Third place was a T3 with Allen Hagen (Charlotte) turning in 87-80-167, and Michael Edwards (Charlotte) recording 86-81-167. Fifth place was a T5 with Stephen Zannos (Charlotte) and David Pitt firing identical scores of 86-82-168.

In the C flight, John Pearson (Charlotte) got hot on day two and parlayed that day two 79 into an 85-79-164 six shot victory. Excellent golf John!  The runner up honors were shared by Melvin Jenkins and Robert Hockman with identical rounds of 88-82-170. Fourth place was a T4 as Peter Brenner (Charlotte) carded 87-84-171, together with Michael Smith’s (Charlotte) 82-89-171. Owen Strouse (Charlotte) finished alone in sixth place with scores of 89-84-173.

In the D flight, Nick Dalessandro not only led wire to wire, but he came out of the gate on day two like a Kentucky Derby thoroughbred, leaving the competition in the dust. Nick’s 89-79-168 produced a 14 shot swing and victory. Impressive golf Nick!  Josh Simmons from the Atlanta GA Tour held on to the runner up spot shooting 94-88-182. Third place became a T3 when Michael Kessler 95-88-183 and Corey Reeder (Charlotte) 89-94-183 ended the event with matching totals. Josh Tomalia rounded out the top five scoring with rounds of 96-88-184, while Jay Johnston (Charlotte) stood alone in sixth by recording 95-92-187.
