Saturday April 11th the Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour roared into Lexington to face Sapona Golf Club. The weather was warm and the conditions were great for golf.
In the Champ flight, Kyle Moffett put together an excellent round of golf posting an even par score of 71 to grab the four shot win. Great golf Kyle! Aaron Bayles was the runner up with a round of 75, while Justin Applebaum placed third with a score of 82.
Kirby Moffitt shot a fine score of 78 in the A flight to capture a three shot victory. It was Kirby’s second win of the season. Great job Kirby! Roger Stevenson’s round of 81 gave him solid control of the runner up spot. Third place was a T3 as Jamie Hollis, and Terry Brown from the Charlotte Tour, shot identical scores of 86. Thomas Askew carded a round of 87 to round out the top five places.
In the B flight, Shawn Cacioppo got off to a great start and kept it rolling en route to an 80 for the four shot victory. Awesome golf Shawn! Chris Moore visiting from the Charlotte Tour posted 84 to take second place honors. Another third place finish was a T3 with David Pitt and Frederick Levine each recording rounds of 88. Kenneth Beckett in town from the Tidewater VA Tour shot 89 to close out the top five scoring.
The C flight saw Troy Branch and Stephen Rhyne finish their rounds with matching scores of 88. By the Tour Manual, all ties for first place require an on course sudden victory playoff. So Troy and Stephen hopped into their carts and went straight to the first tee to decide a winner. It wasn’t long before the players were headed back. Troy held off Stephen on the first hole to collect his first win. Well done and congratulations Troy!! Stephen was naturally the runner up, and Casey Honeycutt’s near miss 89 score gave him third place. Melvin Jenkins snagged fourth place shooting 94, while Michael Smith from the Charlotte Tour rounded out the top five by carding a 95.
In the D flight, Tour Director and golfer Extraordinaire Sola Edwards put together a consistent round of 90 to take the victory by a single shot. Outstanding golf Sola! Justin Robertson’s 91 gave him the runner up honors, while Gilly Torres pulled down third place by firing a 96. Mark Dyvig from the Charlotte Tour was the fourth place finisher with a 98, and Tom Kubla took fifth place with a 106.
