On Saturday June 27th, the Central Carolina Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour made their way to the Carolina Trace CC in Sanford to take on the Lakes Course. The weather was spotty, had a few sprinkles, and we missed a thunderstorm thank goodness.
In the Champ flight, Chris Gooch shot a nice round of 77 to collect the two stroke victory. Outstanding golf Chris! Runner up with a score of 79 it was Stephen Pippin, while visiting Richmond Tour member Bradley Taylor carded 81 in third place.
John Crooks started out hot in the A flight, and stayed that way through the eighteen holes. John posted an excellent round of two over par 74 to capture his first victory this season by two shots. Awesome golf John! Runner up honors were shared by Juan Sanders and Paul Hines with matching scores of 76, while Kirby Moffitt racked up fourth place with an 82. Fifth place was a three way tie with Riley Gooch, Russell McDonald from the Charlotte Tour, and Thomas Askew all recording rounds of 86.
In the B flight, Bill Mock shot a strong round of 82 to claim the four stroke victory. It was Bill’s first win this season. Great golf Bill! Shawn Cacioppo grabbed the runner up spot with a score of 86, while Steven Zannos from the Charlotte Tour carded 87 in a third place finish. Fourth place was a round of 89 by Frederick Levine, as David Pitt rounded out the top five scoring with 90.
Dan Parris claimed his second victory of the 2026 season in the C flight by firing a great round of 85 in the four shot win. Excellent golf Dan! Casey Honeycutt wrapped up the second place finish with his score of 89, while Steve Carlyle seized third place by carding 90. Fourth place became a T4 with Melvin Jenkins and Jason Kaiser both turning in rounds of 91.
Brad Young in the D flight, visiting from the Charlotte Tour, fought off the competition all day and pulled out a single stroke victory with his score of 92. Well done Brad! Gilly Torres grabbed runner up honor with a round of 93, while Jay Johnston from the Charlotte Tour placed third by shooting 94. Danny Pyles ended the day in fourth place with a score of 96, and Michael Kessler closed out the top five scoring with his 97.
After a brief break, the Central Carolina Golfweek Tour resumes play on Saturday July 18th at Cypress Lakes GC in Hope Mills. It’s an 8:30am straight tee start. After a break you will be ready for some competition so sign up today and join us on the 18th.
