The Golfweek Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour ventured over to Greensboro and played the Forest Oaks Golf Course on August 29th. It was a hot August day but those of us who are trying to make it to the last few tournaments, showed up and gave it our best.
Forest Oaks had punched the greens which the directors found out a week or so before this tournament. Almost cancelling the tournament to try and move it to another course but after making a trip over to inspect the greens determined that they were good enough to play. Forest Oaks staff was very good to us and it was a terrific day of golf after all.
Chris Gooch won with a great score of 72 just coming off his win at the last tournament at Tanglewood! He is on a roll! Congratulations again Chris! Stephen Pippin and Aaron Bayles rounded it off with scores of 77 finishing second and third for the day with Ryan Medlin who drove over from the Eastern Tour to play turned in an 83 for fourth place.
The A flight winner was Kirby Moffett who has been playing some awesome golf this year turning in a scorecard of 73 holding Riley off by one shot. This win bumped Kirby up to the Champ flight, so watch out! He’s playing some amazing golf. Great job Kirby! Riley Gooch had another great day of golf and finished runner-up with a strong 74, right on the hills of Kirby all day. Dwayne Pope rounded off the top three with another 77. Dwayne finished second with another 77 at Tanglewood last tournament. Dwayne’s win is just around the corner!
Michael Cherry and David Pitt of B flight fought for first all day with Michael turning in the winning scorecard by one shot of 78. Great golf guys! Congratulations to Michael! David Pitt, who has been playing some good golf turned in a 79 to take the second-place finish. Fred Levine with an 84 rounded off the top three. Nice job guys! These players are loyal Central tour members battling it out tournament after tournament. Many thanks and job well done!
Dan Parris turned in the winning score card for the C flight with a wonderful score of 82. Job well done Dan! Robert Kessler turned in the second-place scorecard with an 84! Great round Rob! Sounds like Rob could be moving up a flight soon! (lol) Robert Hockman is also playing well this year with one win behind him and he rounded off the top three with a score of 91. Amazing Robert!
Our very own Josh Tomalia got his second win in a row at Forest Oaks with a smooth score of 85. He is on his way to C flight We are going to miss you! (lol) Great day for Josh! His side kick and fiance’, Caitlin was there to see this second victory! Benton Smith finished in second place turning in a scorecard of 91. Way to go, Benton! And, Sola Edwards, tour director rounded out the top three with a score of 96.
Next up on the agenda is Stoney Creek GC located in Whitsett, NC is with 12:00 tee times. The season is coming to an end so try to make this one and one more! Hope you will put September 12th on your calendar for Stoney Creek. It is a beautiful course and you don’t want to miss it! It’s in awesome shape! See you there!
