The 3rd Annual Memorial Day Players Championship at the Resort at Glade Springs honored the collective 386 years of military service of the 2 active-duty and 22 veteran tour members present at the event.
In the Championship Flight, Josh Earnest, of the Kentucky Tour, earned the victory with a 1-over-par performance. He carded a score of 71-74-145. Brandon Johnson, a Cincinnati/Dayton Tour member, finished the weekend strong with four birdies Sunday. He shot a 76-72-148 for second place. Tony Brown, also of the Kentucky Tour, rounded out the top-3 with a 151.
In the A Flight, Scott Kennedy, an Upstate SC Tour player, edged Columbus Tour member Kyle Crossfield in a playoff to earn the victory. Kennedy and Crossfield were both tied at 156 heading into the playoff. A second tie occurred in the A Flight between Dustin Kennedy, of the Upstate SC Tour, and Tom Burlison, from the Columbus Tour. They both shot a 158.
In the B Flight, Bill Russell, of the Upstate SC Tour, took the top spot with a card of 80-87-167. Garrett Maynard, a Columbus Tour player, placed second with a 170 while DC Metro Tour’s Imee Stackhouse and Bob Santee, of the Upstate Tour, finished in a two-way tie for third (172).
In the C Flight, Joe Brown, of the Atlanta Tour, finished a stroke ahead of both Charlie Strunks, a Cincinnati/Dayton Tour member, and Upstate SC Tour’s Dale Polya (177). Brown carded an 88-88-176. Travis Rinehart, of the Columbus Tour, placed fourth (181).
In the D Flight, James Briggs, from the DC Metro Tour, earned the win with a score of 93-84-177. Danny Sullivan, of the Upstate SC Tour, took second (183) while Shawn Doyle, a DC Metro Tour player, carded a 97-96-193.
The Edwin Watts Two-Man Team Challenge was a success with 19 teams! Congratulations to the following in each division of the event:
