Western Piedmont Amateur Golf Tour Completes 2007 at Deer Brook

2007 "D" Flight Champions
Deer Brook Country Club near Shelby, NC hosted the final event for the Asheville and Western Piedmont divisions of the Amateur Golf Tour on Saturday October 13, 2007. The course was in excellent condition with the greens rolling true and fast. The Deer Brook staff did a great job in ensuring the event ran smoothly with minimal distractions from a wedding scheduled the same day. The music served as a great backdrop to the Awards ceremony.
Rick Tomei of Charlotte, NC fired a 73 to take the Championship Flight top honor. Chuck Hennon from Asheville, NC finished second with long time tour veteran David Cauthen of Gastonia, NC in third place. Chuck had a 77 with three birdies and David scored an 80 with two birdies. Rick had the best score of the day with consistent play and no mistakes.
Joshua Saylor of Lincolnton, NC, finished tied for fourth, but held on to the Championship points title with Mike Cochran of Gastonia, NC in second and David Cauthen in third.
In the “A†Flight, Jimmy Turner of Chesnee, SC used two birdies to shoot 75, defeating Jacob Sigmon of Shelby, NC who shot 77 for second place and Steve Rogers of Gastonia, NC in third with an 81.
Rick Bradshaw of Denver, NC held on to win the “A†Flight points title , with Wesley Ellis of Kings Mountain, NC in second and Doug Newton of Ellenboro, NC in third.
“B†Flight was the most highly contested flight of the day with the top three players finishing with-in three shots. John Pearson of Gastonia, NC prevailed over Ricky Cope of Belmont, NC in the “B†flight. John shot an 80 and Ricky scored an 81, both with two birdies. Don Floyd of Gastonia shot an 82 for third place.
John’s win secured the “B†Flight points Championship over Ricky Cope of Belmont, NC with Brian Wood placing third. “B†flight has been very competitive all year.
“C†Flight honors went to Brenda Hoyle of Lake Lure, NC with an 87. Tony Parker of Hickory, NC placed second with a 90 over John Holland of Highlands, NC who shot a 93.
Tony held on to the “C†Flight points Championship over Jim Long of Shelby, NC and Eddie Mustin of Blacksburg, SC who had to miss this tournament.
Gary Bott of Cashiers, NC took “D†Flight with a 93 over Timothy Huffman and Rhonda Boyd who both ended the season with 97’s. Tim is from Shelby, NC and Rhonda is from Old Fort, NC.
Tim won the “D†Flight points Championship over Mark Yerrid of West Virginia; who missed this tournament, and Darrell Keller of Kings Mountain,NC.
