Grey Cooke, Robin Gomez, Dan Seidenfaden, Douglas Grant, and Ronnie Henderson all won the 2025 Treasure Island Regional hosted by The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.
A total of 104 players from 19 Tours Nationwide gathered to experience the allure of South Florida golf and bask in the sunshine.
With low scores and high temperatures, two of Florida's premier courses showcased their challenges. The Dye Course, true to Pete Dye's design philosophy, demanded both precision and creativity in shot selection, while the Wanamaker demonstrated the speed of greens found in a "Links" setting.
Pin placements were strategically set as "Sunday Pins" on both days, and the players rose to the occasion, achieving numerous eagles and birdies beneath the perfect South Florida skies. The turnout was remarkable, and it was a pleasure to connect with golfers from across the country.
In the Champ Flight, six distinct Tours were represented, setting the stage for an intense competition among nine players. Grey Cooke (South FL) clearly demonstrated his determination to win, with four of his six birdies recorded on the back nine, concluding the first day with a three-shot lead.
On Day Two, amidst the challenging Wanamaker course, Cooke successfully fended off the pursuing players, adding four more birdies to finish the day at one over par, totaling 145 and securing the victory. Genki Sedato (Tampa) finished three strokes behind at 148, followed by Eric Bruns (Jacksonville, FL) carding 155.
Flight A, twenty-nine players had their golf balls in the air on Sunday morning, all vying for the championship title. The scores on the first day were modest, reflecting the players' eagerness to excel. Robin Gomez (South FL) demonstrated his prowess as one of the top players on his Local Tour, posting a commendable first-round score of 75, which tied him for the lowest round with member Al Clerico (Orlando, FL). Members Dwayne Divers (South FL) and Bill "Shu" Shufelt (South FL) trailed by two strokes, setting the stage for an exhilarating showdown on the second day.
Day Two proved to be an exciting event to follow via live scoring, as players adopted an aggressive approach. Clerico birdied the challenging fourth hole, earning the only super skin of the day, intensifying the competition. Both "Shu" and Divers applied consistent pressure on Gomez, but he maintained his composure, securing two crucial birdies on the back nine to finish with a score of 79 (totaling 154) and clinching the victory. Shufelt took second place with a score of 157, while Clerico and Divers entered a scorecard playoff for third, both finishing at 158.
Seventeen B Flight players commenced Day One with aspirations of claiming the top spot. Mark Klenck (South FL Tour Director) secured the lead after recording a score of 83 on the Dye course.
Dan Seidenfaden (South FL) trailed by two shots after the first day, setting the stage for a competitive second round. As long-time friends and fellow Golfweek members, Seidenfaden and Klenck enjoyed their pairing in the final round. Seidenfaden accelerated on the back nine, ultimately catching up to Klenck with only one hole remaining. The decisive moment unfolded on the famous 18th hole of the Wanamaker course, where Klenck’s putt lingered on the lip of the hole, granting Dan Seidenfaden the victory.
Chris Novack (Hilton Head-Savannah) made a strong push with the day's lowest round of 81, finishing in third place with a total score of 173. Scott Johnson (South FL) shared the lead for several holes but ultimately fell to fourth place with a score of 174.
A total of twenty-five C Flight players participated in the show, prepared for an exciting competition. On the first day, the scores were relatively low, with "Gator" Gregory Gatrell (Tampa, FL) leading the pack with a score of 82. Keith Vetter (North Central FL), fresh off his Saturday victory at the Orlando Senior Tournament on the Ryder course, maintained strong performance with a score of 84. Douglas Grant (South FL) found himself trailing by nine shots as the round began and completing the day with score of 91.
However, on the second day, Grant significantly improved his game, successfully hitting fairways, and his iron play and putting skills soared. He recorded a score of 83, which was the lowest round of the Flight, allowing him to overtake both Vetter and Gatrell for a narrow victory with a final score of 174 and the Regional win. Rich Woodhall (Orlando, FL) and John Reilly (South FL) completed the top five standings with 176 and 177.
The 20-member field of D Flight, one of the most competitive on the Tour, was no exception during the holiday weekend. Observing Ronnie Henderson’s (South FL) performance on Sunday, it was clear he would be a formidable opponent.
His impressive score of 86 in the first round provided him with a necessary buffer for the second day, especially as Anthony Bellapigna (Tampa, FL) charged ahead, posting a remarkable 85 for the day's lowest round, finishing with a total of 176 to secure second place.
Henderson maintained his consistency with a score of 88 on Day Two, culminating in a total of 174 to clinch the victory and complete the South Florida sweep. Rounding out the top spots were Rimas Bacevicius (Chicago) in third and Scott Luurtsema (Tampa, FL) in fourth.
